  • Yeah, the show being named after four of the main girls means they can’t have one of them just up and die halfway through, tho it really hasn’t put them through much in the grand scheme of things. I think V9 fumbled hard on the ascension thing but at least we saw Ruby actually hit a low.

I actually re-watched (and read for the first time) Akame Ga Kill! recently and couldn’t help but see the similarities of over-the-top spectacle fighting with utterly ridiculous weaponry but that show was not afraid to kill off its core cast one by one. In some ways I think RWBY could have benefited from that kind of ballsiness.

  • I think that’s a (very slight) exaggeration but I recognize Pokémon is babby’s first RPG which is why I generally don’t count the series when discussing RPGs.

In the case of the topic at hand, tho, all the Pokémon games I’ve played have encouraged the use of status ailments against bosses and has hard caps on stat boosts that are easy to wrap your head around.

  • Oh, yeah, Sheena (Monty’s widow) has been going through some old hard drives from the early days and occasionally posting about it on her tumblr. I keep forgetting to check b/c I don’t have a tumblr but for all these I keep doing sauce checks on and finding the art is ONLY on tumblr I’m considering digging around on there (luckily uBlock makes it less of a nightmare to navigate).

IIRC there was also reveal that… either Cinder or Adam was planned to be working as an apprentice to Raven (I think the fandom toyed with Adam being related b/c of the Grimm mask thing, tho let’s face it: Monty had a thing for edgy red-and-black OCs). Also there was a scrapped beach-turned-pirates episode.

  • Actually that’s good to hear; I remember hearing that the website became damn-near unusable after the Viz acquisition (it was Viz, wasn’t it?). My litmus test would probably have to be seeing if [S]Cascade still looks as intended – one of the things I loved about Homestuck was how it pushed artistic boundaries of the medium and I remember [S]Cascade in particular growing in such a way that couldn’t be replicated in a simple video format.

Actually, on that note, one day I’ve got to return to Unsounded. It was a much simpler webcomic (being more traditionally-laid-out comic pages with a less insane story/setting) but also broke out of its pages in such a way that only webcomics can do.

  • Maybe you’re getting Qrow and Raven’s ideas mixed up? Like I said, at this point I’m starting to get canon and fanon mixed up a bit (probably moreso for Raven who has so many redemption fics it’s not even funny) so I’m not entirely sure what she said about it tho I am certain that Raven as a whole is a fucking mess (even if I do have a soft spot for what she could have been).

I never ended up finishing Homestuck (lost the time during the gigapause and Flash being discontinued made returning to it a problem) but from what I remember Act 4 is where Hussie stopped taking reader input and started putting the story more on rails, but I’d say it stays irreverent with the quirky humor everywhere. After all, one character had to be taught to use the caps lock key tumut

  • FMA and Brotherhood are some of my favorites, but I grew up on the original so I don’t feel I can properly judge either series. I’ve got other recs in different genres if it turns out they’re still not your jam.

I got sucked into HeroAca as a guilty pleasure, and while I think it does a really good job at delivering its intended messages and themes (as a for instance, each of the major villains in the League clearly represent an undesirable in IRL Japanese society – homeless people, gays, trans people, NEETs, etc.) I’m not one to recommend a 9-season long battle shounen as if it’s high art.

  • Statistically, I think most RWBY fans are but I would like to hear from as many people as possible. Maybe I just need to wait until this place grows a little more.

Sorry for not replying sooner but I didn’t have anything to say at first and with other people popping in I even saw this post on the front page of this instance and I started getting a little nervous(;^ω^)

  • There’s actually a fair amount of height differences but due to the nature of 3D animation some of it is absolutely ignored or played up. Like how Glynda should be equal in height (at least with those heels) to Ozpin and Ironwood and yet every scene they’re positioned in such a way as to make her look much shorter in comparison. Much the same w/ Jaune and Pyrrha, tho the fandom seems to have collectively decided that even if Pyrrha isn’t in actuality taller than Jaune, he’s got such a puppy personality that at least in his mind she’s like a 7ft tall giant.
