Thank you, I appreciate it!
Are they Scientologists too? I didn’t know that. It could explain why they’re publicly supporting him I guess.
I commented elsewhere that I wondered if they believe he’s innocent. If they truly believe this is a miscarriage of justice could these letters be written with his appeal in mind? There’s no physical evidence as I understand, maybe they’re going for the “this guy is so sober he wouldn’t even know how to get drugs” angle? I’m just talking out of my arse now but I’m so confused by the level of support for him I can’t help but clutch at straws to try to explain it.
I wondered if it was a “presented without comment” kinda thing? Shade on everyone without explicit condemnation? Maybe the writer was told to write a sympathetic piece and just couldn’t bring themselves to? The more I type the more wishful I realise this thinking is… 😕
No, but I have to say I’m surprised by the non-family members writing letters of character after he had been convicted of forcible rape. It’s one thing if it’s family I guess, or if the accused had been in the throes of addiction or similar at the time and had changed. But these are people who were working with him at the time he committed these crimes and they’re all testifying about him being such a good example of sobre living and a positive influence. Do they not feel betrayed by him? Do they not believe he did it? It’s strange.
I’m not sure it’s special enough for that. But if you can’t find anything better I could buy it for you and send it personally if you like? You wouldn’t need to order too much that way. Send me a DM if you’d like me to help 🙂
If you’re in the UK, John Lewis sells some great own-brand loose sheets and envelopes. I used them a few years ago for a calligraphy commission. They were slightly textured but not enough to disrupt the strokes of a dip pen so they should be fine with a foundation pen. No bleeding, see through enough for a bold guide sheet. I’ll see if I can find a link.
TIL, thanks!
You reminded me to reply to the portable suggestion - yeah, I can’t see how it would work in my flat either. Are electric ceiling fans more efficient than standard fans, do you know?
Sorry, I forgot to reply to this. Thanks for the info! Sash windows aren’t the most common type in the UK unfortunately. The majority of windows open outwards from the top or side. If you live in a flat like I do, your windows also open outwards but only a few centimetres. I’m not sure it would be possible to create a temporary seal around the hose bit. I think the majority of UK homes will be dependent on fans and ceiling fans.
I need to find more opportunities to use “I don’t know what kind of ruse you’re trying to perpetrate” in my life. Preferably over completely banal things.
Thank you for the insight! As it gets hotter and hotter in the UK I wonder if electric ceiling fans will be a more realistic proposition than air con? Most houses don’t have the type of windows you can stick an AC unit in and I imagine it’s really expensive to install and run the “proper” ones.
Sorry, I’m entering stupid questions territory here, but a bonus how? Are they cheaper than aircon? More efficient? Or does it get hot enough that aircon alone isn’t enough keep you cool? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an electric ceiling fan irl and I only experience air conditioning in shops.
Omg I love it!! The wooden ceiling panel in the living room(?) is gorgeous. GA is Georgia though, right? In the south? I would have thought aircon is must there, but then I’m in the UK and only need to use a fan a handful of times a year. Are electric ceiling fans like that enough to keep the house cool?
I was thinking whitewash and mirrors! If the owners of the buildings either side even allowed it that is.
Someone posted one above: https://lemmy.world/comment/2377576 In this thread @Emperor found some similar ones too.
It’s not the house itself that makes me sad - it’s kinda cute and I dream of a private garden. But I suspect this house was here before the (presumably) commercial buildings either side and that makes me sad. Like Chinese nail houses.
Nice detective skills!
I think the house being there first is the more likely scenario. I like your optimism though!
Skin cancer’s a killer. Can’t be too careful.
