I’m truly impressed by the photographer not being in the photos.
Got a couple.
The first bad interview I turned up and had to wait for the owner who rocked up 15 minutes late. We had a discussion and he was happy with my IT skills, we then got into a discussion of how to run the business.
He asked me what would I do if a salesman kept selling Linux support to businesses but the company had no one that had experience of it, I said it didn’t feel morally right to sell something that you can’t actually fulfill currently, put a cork in the salesman regarding Linux support, train/hire staff and when ready then continue to offer it. He said that’s not how his business works and to drive the business the salesman was doing the right thing.
During that interview I saw someone walk into the office that I had worked with in the past, they were incredibly unreliable, bad at the job and were fired, this one guy appearing gave me the final sign this was not the workplace for me. After the interview they gave me an offer that I declined.
The second interview probably a out 2 months later I turned up to was a small company of maybe 3 people. I turned up and it was a shared office space they used, he walked up to the receptionist and asked if there was a meeting room available, she said no. So he led me to the kitchenette area where he offered for me to sit on a sofa not to dissimilar to this…
Having the hum of a vending machine in the background added to the ambience. We got to chatting and it sounded like the guy didn’t really know what he wanted to do with the business or how to run it, generally seemed disorganised.
Towards the end of the interview wouldn’t you know it, the same guy I used to work with walked into the kitchenette wearing the t-shirt of a company in the building, gave me “the nod” and proceeded to use the vending machine, which failed to dispense his choice and he stood there shaking the machine.
This guy must have been some kind of angel in place to stop me from taking bad jobs. I declined the offer they gave me. A year or so later I was telling a friend about this and we checked on the company, it went out of business.
They were bad interviews, but I still got something out of them.
I’m convinced that a lot of the Chinese takeaways in the UK are used for money laundering. Like 90% of the takeaways you go to only accept cash. I get they probably want to avoid a bit of tax on their earnings, but to completely exclude card sales and potentially lose out on that business really makes me think they are up to more.
You probably already have one, but if you don’t; get an electric toothbrush.
Also get a water flosser for when you CBA to manually floss! Imo something is better than nothing.
I found this really useful when I went to university. I was able to keep a job that I could go back to around Xmas to earn a bit of money so I didn’t need to work during term time
This is a US website no?
But if they are taxed how will all that money trickle down to the peasants?!

My employer has already been putting measures in place to what seems to be potential loopholes. Hybrid working was bundled as part of “flexible working”, they have separated it out into a different terminology. The term Flexible Working is now purely for those who want to change their hours like removing a day once a week and getting paid less, or moving hours from one day into the other 4.
A large number of companies are pushing to get people to RTO and I get the feeling these workers rights won’t counteract that.
Ditto! My mum would jazz it up a tad by making an apple sauce to go with it. To this day it’s so memorable for me as a delicious desert but for some reason I’ve not attempted to make it myself
BorrowBox is pretty great in what you can borrow for free. My other half gets audio books from it from time to time!
Hate to be that guy, but the federation exists in a post-money society. No one gets paid, they do what they do for prestige, pride, adventure, and the good of humanity. Maybe the management believe they can inspire their minions to do better, or maybe the SME’s are so used to that shit that they under promise and over deliver.
SME: “oh no, our defences are down” Captain: “How long do you need to fix them?” SME: (hmm, captain will cut the time in half, it takes about 15 minutes…fuck it…) “Two hours” Captain: “You have one” SME: (Like candy from a baby)
I had to turn the music off as it got repetitive, but the rest of the audio stays on. The sound effects are so satisfying as everything is counted after playing a hand and you’ve got a bunch of jokers and cards triggering and then flames begin to build up.
To add to this, get yourself a USB-C nubbin to protect it going forward.
I’m guessing the top management didn’t learn that crunch is perceived negatively and doesn’t always yield quality results. I’m so glad I never backed this game all those years ago.
Dawn of War 3 was absolutely ruined by them trying to make it an eSports. I find most RTS doesn’t give that same feel we got when WC3 first came out or later on when Company of Heroes was released. They were solid games that brought something new to the genre.
I’m still in those early cautiously optimistic stage where I hope I can make a positive change that will help those who come after me. How long does it take for the pessimism to set in? 😂
Thanks for this. As part of onboarding I have been trying to update where I can. There are times I wonder if I am adding to docs what others may perceive as fluff as it may be something obvious to them. I like to work with a “If we’re all on a bus that goes over a cliff, does someone new have everything they need?” mentality.
At present the team is using GitHub Pages, which almost feels like a hurdle itself in updating the documentation quickly and keeping it organised and consistent. Being a junior I personally prefer a WYSIWYG. From your experience is there any pros/cons in using a WYSIWYG vs Markdown?
Thank you for those links, it has given me a great place to get stuck into!
After the first film I didn’t subject myself to more of it
Kill the ads for sure, but go ahead and give me movie trailers before the start, but with some limitations in place:
