  • So that’s an interesting feature because essentially you are looking to buy/rent a movie and the Apple TV app actually points out to you that it’s available on a streaming site, often you might already be paying for that streaming site and so can watch it for free.

You have to remember that those of us building movie libraries are not the majority, and this feature is actually quite a nice touch by Apple to everyday users as they won’t waste their money buying/renting a movie they can already watch on streaming site.

However, I agree it’s frustrating to us as it actually changes the movie quality listed to whatever the streaming site is showing it in, so Apple TV may have a 4K version you can buy but Prime is showing it in HD so the Apple TV page on lists it as HD and you have to search to find the option to buy it but this option does show the quality you’re buying!

  • There’s a lot of stuff available in 4K on Blu-ray but not on iTunes yet, it will be to do with licensing issues.

Apple updates movies to 4K all the time, but as I’m sure you can appreciate it’s quite an undertaking to update every movie so it will be 4K eventually.

I’m also building a digital library on the Apple TV app atm, my current method is to look at the 4K page each week and see what 4K movies on offer and buy the ones I like. (4K page isn’t on iTunes, use the Apple TV app).
