  • Yes it is accurate, how can you ask that in the context of Ukraine, a country where too many refugee women have been pushed into the legal sex trade or pornography in western countries out of desperation?

Do you have a source for that? Not that I don’t believe you because I do, but I’d actually like to educate myself about their situation.

Still, just because there are victims being pushed into the legal sex trade does not mean that everyone or even a majority are being pushed into it (any more than all workers are pushed into wage slavery). Obviously no one should be pushed into it.

One model which is palatable even to libs is decriminalizing the lower levels of the sex trade and providing people real opportunities in life, infrastructure, subsidized education, while deconstructing the industry itself.

That should be a red flag! Of course it’s palatable to liberals! It’s a milder form of the same paternalism that views the State as a legitimate arbiter of the sexual practices that consenting adults are allowed to enter into. We can, should, and must provide real opportunities and infrastructure and subsidized education to sex workers as well as everyone else. We can do that without harassing sex workers or people who want to go to them.

Like do we really want to trust sexual morality to the States and the capitalists that national governments serve? I say “HELL NO!” They are the very last people on the face of this godforsaken planet who I want to consult about sexual morality.

That is why I framed the UN’s inclusion of sex trade managers in the category of sex worker as a threat

    Case in point. That’s fucked.

  • Like saying coal mining in apartheid South Africa had “some respiratory issues” or “some disaster issues”

Is that an accurate comparison to the porn industry now? Because consent is much more important (but not important enough!) in the current porn industry, since sex workers have fought for their rights. Yes, there are absolutely still abusers in the porn industry, but my understanding is that things have gotten better for porn actors.

Yes, I am saying pornography is not magically exempt from the colonial structure of the sex trade because a camera provides a legal pretext.

Neither am I. But that doesn’t mean we should legally ban pornography. Just because pornography currently is a part of the colonial structure of the sex trade does not mean that it has to be that way.

  • Does pornography actively enable human trafficking? Certainly human trafficking enables certain types of pornography (i.e. CSAM, bestiality, and other forms of nonconsensual porn), but it doesn’t go the other way around.

Like I’m not completely blind to the fact that the existing porn industry has some consent issues and issues with patriarchy and reinforcing other existing hierarchies…but so does art, music, and a whole bunch of other stuff, and we don’t need to abolish all of that. Conversely, like art and music, porn can be incredibly liberating when done with consent, even under a capitalist system.

Sex workers are workers too ✊

  • Yeah. They definitely are biased towards the cops, probably because that’s where they get most of their information from when writing the scripts.

I watch them anyways, but with a healthy dose of skepticism. I really wish there was an explicitly anti-cop true crime channel.

Ironically I usually end up leaving those videos still irritated at police for failing to do even the most basic detective work. But I also used to watch COPS as a kid because even back then I was like “what the fuck are these pigs doing, what a bunch of monsters” but then I later found out that it was supposed to make cops look good? Like really?!? 😆

  • Still a cop, still a bastard.

“All cops are bastards” means “All cops are bastards”, no exceptions. Simply put: even the most polite, most protocol-abiding, most progressive-coded police officer still ultimately serves to impose the will of the capitalist class upon the working class. Rarely do they ever protect, rarely do they ever even make the situation better, and the rare times that they do anything positive are basically when calling a monster with a gun is better than calling no one at all.

It’s not a “barrel of apples” situation. It’s more like a barrel of radioactive waste: some of it might be less bad than the rest, but ultimately we need to get the whole barrel as far away from humanity as possible forever.

It’s that the police are categorically a bad thing. It literally does not matter what else a cop does, as long as the individual is still a cop and still have cop powers and privileges, then like all other cops, they are bastards.

Dude got beaten by his fellow officers.

That sucks and that shouldn’t have happened. But he still went back into policing, even becoming an arch-cop. So fuck him.
