In regards to how freakishly, disproportionately skinny all Barbies used to be made? That didn’t come up.

Not who you replied to but I’ve seen it, so I’ll chime in. I liked the movie and thought it had some great messages, but Barbie used to be touted as the prime example of setting unrealistic body expectations for young girls, and this movie smooths right over that, setting up Barbie as a feminist icon. That’s some damn good advertising towards the millennial women it’s aimed at, who are now moms and buying toys for their kids.
Those are just quotation marks. Air quotes are when you use your fingers to form quotation marks in the air.
Idk man, I have a friend who’s almost 40 and he skates all the time (though he did start when he was younger). From what I understand, you just have to learn how to fall correctly, like, rolling with the momentum. Unless you have issues with bone density or something, I say go for it!
Unrelated but this reminds me of that Bayeux tapestry site that let you make your own medieval images/memes. I wonder if it’s still around
They probably don’t. Even if some ticks get swept up by non-hosts and die, enough find food this way to make it favorable to evolution.

Funny timing, I just got done reading an article on NPR titled “Why can’t we stop homelessness? 4 reasons why there’s no end in sight.” None of the 4 reasons were “it’s a feature, not a bug.”
But I watched this kick-ass show from Boots Riley the other day called “I’m a Virgo,” and it features a character who does fantastic takedowns of capitalism, including an explanation as for why capitalism needs homelessness as part of the climax in the final episode. Unfortunately i can’t find a clip on YouTube or I’d post it.
Sasha calls out Barbie for “making women feel bad about themselves” and being capitalistic but that’s never really addressed by Barbie. She runs away and cries about being called a fascist (which Barbie clearly is not, taking away credibility from Sasha’s other claims and portraying her criticisms as silly teenage angst).
Sasha’s rejection of Barbie is portrayed as an extension of her rejection of her mom, and by the end of the movie Sasha has done a 180 on her views, becoming a Barbie fan again because she’s reconnected with her mom. I think it’s excellent advertising.
