I don’t really get how the fig leaf of “due to data-centers” is even supposed to work.
They get more demand, so more revenue. Then the fixed costs of the business are spread over more revenue, which is supposed to make the prices better not worse.
I know the profit motive is just extracting whatever the market will bear, but could anyone still explain the reasoning they are trying to make customers believe?

Looks very impressive, but also pretty airport-like. I think I prefer the look of Frankfurt or Zürich, which operate on a similar scale (all three at around 170 million passengers a year).
Of course there is way different railway history behind those. Making it look retro would also have been weird for Guangzhou South I would think.

I heard that when they built the Lötschberg train tunnel to connect the upper Wallis area with Thun and Bern, people started commuting through there. Visp-Thun is only half an hour and Visp-Bern is only an hour now. But yeah I still don’t think it’s that many.
Also Swiss trains don’t run that fast, it’s more like 155 mph in the Lötschberg.

Not our Swiss trains in the alps, that’s for sure. It’s too curvy in our rail network. Swiss trains are somewhat famous for going slow relative to neighboring countries’ trains.
But I can’t speak with confidence for the trains going through French, Italian, German and Austrian areas of the Alps (the Alps stretch further that one might expect).

Are you listening to yourself? Because a 4 cm² solar cell fits in a 170 g calculator, that means that 200-300 m² of solar cells will be fine for the 35 ton turbine blades at around π/2/s of angular momentum with the outer radius of 100m? Those concepts are barely related.
You have no idea if the fiber glass blades have the tensile force to spare to deal with 3 tons of extra weight from the panels alone, or what it will do to the bearings in the generator if you load them 10% or 15% more, or how much flat panels will fuck up your blade aerodynamics, or how expensive it will be to get custom curved panels to preserver the aerodynamics.
Just hand waving everything that stands against your idea away as solvable is magical thinking, not visionary brilliance.

I think there are still many who don’t know this: All important internet links go over fiber optic cables with lasers and photo diodes at the ends, and in the backbone everything under 100 Gigabits per second is slow.
The speeds you are used to as a consumer are mostly limited by the last mile to your house, be it wireless, DSL on telephone wires, or DOCSIS on coax cable. Everywhere else 10 Gigabits per second is like the minimum. Our current generation backbone routers can’t even do 1 Gigabits per second interfaces anymore.

I’d do it for $25/hr, 4-hour minimum.

Wind turbine blades have a lot of surface area that could be covered in solar panels, which solves the issue of solar panels energy output decreasing with heat because then they’d always have built in cooling.
That is a stupid idea. Blade weight is one of the biggest engineering issues for wind turbines.

The important question is how much bandwidth to the base station does the satellite have, unless the dedicated coverage area per satellite shrinks, that would also help with congestion.


So looks like the article posted by OP, written in 2026, somehow takes his headline from a translation mistake from the Prensa Latina Article from 2024, and then cites a Granma Article from 2025 for most of its content.
Why not use the 92 parks in the newest plan for the headline? Is this just automated bad blogspam or what is happening?


What I don’t get is why that number apparently went down since. This daily report only mentions 54 solar parks:

Funny side note, even the writer of this note is confused by W vs Wh. They must mean 4240 MWh, MW/h is meaningless.


It’s not like I’m great at reading Spanish, but from what I gather this Prensa Latina article says that three projects of 4 MW each are being built, donated by “the asian giant”, which I assume means China. Whereas 75 is (or rather, was, in 2024) the number of solar parks in total that exists:
