Ah gotcha. See if if your raid controller can be flashed/switched to IT mode(HP might call it something else) as then you won’t have to deal with the raid controller’s raid settings and doing anything weird. Then you can just rely on snapraid to manage the drives.
When you say raid 0 on the data disks do you mean just having the disks present as single disks and not putting them into arrays? As seeing raid 0 and data storage makes me very nervous.
And yeah I’d take a disk out of your boot array and then that into a raid 1 so you can use the extra for storage/ redundancy elsewhere.

As for you use case a little more detail on what you’re doing could help. Though if I were you I’d be going for the used gaming hardware if it suits your needs as ECC + management stuff that you get with servers boards while nice isn’t really all that necessary for homelab work.
Another avenue to look is if your workload needs lots of individual add-in cards but they don’t need much bandwidth old mining mobos can be a decent source though they all use conspire CPU slots from what I’ve seen.
I reckon it certainly can be but if on your first playthrough you turn the difficulty way down and play against the easier AI characters it turns to a pretty slow paced, relaxing city builder than gives you space to learn most of the basic mechanics of the game.
