Star Trek is on the softer side of science fiction. It’s just a sitcom in space. When you watch most series based on books (i.e The expanse), major changes need to be made because it doesn’t translate well to the screen.

Using the expanse as an example, the spacers were supposed to be deformed by our standards. They eliminated all the hard sci-fi elements of their appearance. If a book involves a realistic alien civilization, an adaptation is rarely made

  • I might be in the local minority, but I feel as though there are going to be major job shortages due to AI obsolescence. Since it will be a global phenomenon, this trend will lead to an influx in illegal immigration. Two new citizens will turn into ten new citizens in a few decades, and the quality of our universal basic income will be inversely proportional to the number of unskilled laborers.

… with all this being said, I don’t understand why the people on the internet are against immigration enforcement. The majority-both Republicans and Democrats-oppose having an open border. I don’t understand why this is perceived as a Bipartisan issue.

Science fiction is one genre that just doesn’t translate well to the screen. The ideas are too big for a budget and too alien to be adequately depicted. I’m grateful that one man is capable of making twenty hours worth of content in less than a year; it’s more sustainable than millions of dollars being spent on two hours of entertainment.

At this point the countries in temperate climates would seal their borders. The people living near the equator will become stuck, dependent on the the richer nations for their very survival. Once the effects of global warming began creeping up toward the United States and Europe, we will use our superior firepower to force an oil embargo on weaker nations.

It’s going to be fucked up and evil, but it’s unlikely to be uniformly bad for everyone. From an economic perspective, alot of people will benefit.

  • I agree that it’s not fair to compare Michael Jackson to Epstein. Although both engaged in illegal activities, a 16 year old at least has the ability to say, “No, I will not give you a handjob for $200.” The seven and eight year olds Michael abused didn’t have the ability to walk away.

It’s similar to murder charges. Although a highschooler is legally a child, they are still culpable enough for their actions to be tried as an adult. The children Michael targeted would not. The worse part of this situation is that parents voluntarily gave him their children. They should have been tried and investigated.

  • I never understood the “banning doesn’t work” argument. The reason we banned heroin and methamphetamine is because use was rampant without prescriptions. You’d have to be stupid to think that meth at Walmart wouldn’t cause an increase in usage.

… regardless, in this situation prohibition would be effective. Vapes are superior nicotine delivery systems. After years of trying to quit, I transitioned from tobacco in less than a week. Not having the fear of death hanging over me is an indescribable relief.
