You might as well give me a ride home now!
I didnt mean to betray Mr Burns. But his… uh, ultra conservative views clash with with my… choice of life style.
this is where Mr Burns runs for Governor against Mary Baily
IT WAS MY FIRST, AND LAST, RASBERRY SCHNAPS! I WAS MORE ANIMAL THAN MAN!
Is this one where Marge makes homer stay sober? Like, Surrender to Duff? Raindrops keep falling on my head?
Mal is pretty darn heroic. They glossed over the space civil war so as far as we know the browncoats weren’t fighting to preserve slavery. Mal’s a pretty excellent moral guide for what these sovcit nerds wish they were, and enough of a moral actor to be a role model. Evenhanded and loving with subordinates (even Jayne), unrelenting in moral crusade against the government, and a preference for negotiation (even with Constance and Nishka!) but enough of a badass to get out of it (or having a loving found family who can help). He sticks his neck out to help people in need (like the Brothel), and goes along with a reversal even if it means all of their previous efforts were for nothing (my favorite episode, Ariel). A lot of the confusion is just how acidic and brooding Mal starts off, and his arc (such as we see it) is even just 'becomes less curmudgeonly and embraces this heroic side of himself)."
I think a real example in this space is Spike Spiegle from fellow late 2000s bounty hunter broke as dirt space opera, Cowboy Bebop. Spike is much more about money, revenge, and a good fight, and is very open about his nihlism and readiness to get himself killed, but somehow ends up helping a few people along the way.
eh, woke cops is a liberal fantasy, to be sure. Brooklyn 99 was put in an awkward spot in 2020 and did its best to try and talk about them. I do think it was made with the best of intentions, and the cop stuff is mostly like, a parody of cop stuff tropes, rather than a fetishization of the cops themselves (like, say, Law and Order.) Maybe it doesn’t excuse it totally, but it is really worse than say, Parks and Rec’s cheery depiction of depiction of politics (especially when it goes national)?
Part of what convinces me of it’s earnestness is how focused it was on representation. Theres a story about how when Stefanie Beatriz found out Melissa Fumero got the part of Amy, she was convinced well, that was it, they cast the Latina woman. I forget if they made the part of Rosa for her or they liked her so much they just cast her as it, but like, the cast being so diverse stands out compared to some of the more whiter casts on this very list. (and Im not knocking any show on this list, honestly. I liked them all except for The Office, which I never watched, and whatever LN is)
some have red light functions, which wont blind people youre looking at
Birch bark torn into strips and layers makes good kindling. Sticks with little strips cut out and frayed to the side makes good tinder. Cotton balls covered in vaseline are my firestarters of choice. Drier lint is also good. If you’re using charcoal, the bag is great for that as well.
Wool socks. And for the love of all that is holy bring some seasonings. Salt and Pepper are great, but they even sell little seasoning bottles for backpacking that screw together. Trust me.
We did this a few times too. I will say that for winter camping, make sure you have season appropriate gear.
Once I forgot a mallet and I drove them in with a frying pan. I never forgot them again.
Bring as many as you can. Even on Philmont I had two.
If you catch site of a bear, spread out your arms and legs (and use any jackets like frills) to make yourself as big as possible, and make as much noise as you can.
Do Not Run Bears can run at like 40 mph
As far as it being cold, a water bottle left out at night can get cold. An insulated bottle left out will stay cold through the hottest part of the day
Buffy Supernatural Smallville The Arrowverse stuff
I dunno man. I just couldn’t get into the serialized urban fantasy pretty people vs monster of the week genre, even thought it feels like it should be right up my ally. I used to play a TON of V:tM and WW:tA, and Im all about camp and community theater energy. I liked some of the other Whedon stuff at the time, like Firefly. And I’m a life long fan of all things super heroes and I even respect Arrowverse from a far for its commitment to its status as a multimedia project (before the MCU, even).
More recently, some similarly themed shows have been made and I got into them way more; What We Do In The Shadows and Stan Against Evil, and I think maybe the magic sauce was that I would have liked the energy paired something less earnest and more tongue in cheek. All of these shows also had the issue of really annoying fandoms. Its probably the reason I couldn’t lower my hackles around Doctor Who.
Nah fuck that. They did this. This isnt Trump vs Everybody. The camps are already up. they dont get come back feigning ignorance without even apologizing. They just want a pre 2015 status quo.
I came here to post this
Little trick they taught us in CIA
I remember this scene ends with the tidal wave of maple syrup but I cant remember what episode.
OH NO I KILLED HER!
Is this the Hurricane?
As far as I am aware, crypto and NFTs are worth nothing. We might see the Federal gov prop it up for a little longer, given how much the industry contributed to Trumps war chest in 2024, but I don’t expect it be actually worth anything.
I was using “Block chain” as a generalized term for what could be called “the NFT” bubble which absolutely was a thing in 2021, kick started by that Beeple auction and continuing until… roughly Dan Olson’s ‘Line Go Up’ video. Bitcoin had obviously existed long before this. But the under tones were that crypto idiots were pitching was that it would replace all regulatory bodies with web3 block chain technology. They wanted to put all records, including Banking and property records (obviously) but also things like medical, employment and educational records as well, including educational and employment accreditation earned. There are a lot of dimensions to this (that are all extremely dystopian), but I feel confident calling that a tech bubble, with the exact same paradigm shift mentality that underpins the thought process underpinning AI right now.
I work as a case manager supporting people with disabilities. Everyone from non verbal autism to cerebral palsy to the quadriplegics. This would be a death sentence, so it sounds like they want to massacre the disabled to me.
