Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•The best answer to "when did Star Trek get woke?"English
1·9 天前It’s not just Star Trek, it is any and all big IP shows. The more screen time is taken up by flashy effects and explosions and shotty CGI the less time there is to potentially offend that random piece of chewed out and stepped on gum under a random person’s shoe. Because think of that disgusting piece of gum, it might have an opinion!

1·9 天前Same kinda pedantic blabber as with dress shirts and a blouse in my native language. They are exactly the same thing, same fabric, same construction, same damn everything but if it is cut to fit a woman it is a blouse and for men it is a dress shirt. Not sure if English also has this distinction.
Any how, you can call a cat a dog and a dog a rabbit, but that doesn’t change what they physically are.

Games@lemmy.world•The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake – Coming 2026English
1·15 天前I agree with you that oot is not open world. To me it has always felt as a hub world (Hyrule field) with all other levels connected as a kind of leggy appendix. To get anywhere you almost always have to go through hyrule field except if you use the warp portals in the lost woods, at which point the lost woods become a hub.
I do get what other people a re saying that it felt a bit open world, especially for the time as areas quite quickly open up and allow you to have a sneak preview at what is to come.

1·15 天前To me it kinda felt like what twilight Princess would have been if they had the hardware back then. Like a bit more serious and gritty I guess… In any case, the trailer felt a bit uncanny and unzelda like to me, but time will tell if they manage to stick the landing.
Although for now I’m happy they didn’t have this tech while making twilight princess

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•'We Own Up to This Oversight and Apologize for Any Upset Caused': 1666: Amsterdam Developer Admits Using AI Assets, Says They'll Now Be ReplacedEnglish
61·16 天前I somewhat agree with you but not in full. I agree that AI might be great for generating placeholder assets because it allows someone without the artistic skills to produce images/assets that convey a certain idea better then trying to explain it with words. A picture says more than a thousand words after all.
However, I do think that AI assets have no place in a product delivered to consumers. Not as a demo and certainly not as a final product. This goes for any industry and any type of AI generated output. It should merely be used as something that supplements a written idea with another format so to adequately transfer ideas from one person to another.
It seems Nintendo is getting better about this though. During the later half of the switch 1s life their first party games have gone on sale for 33% off multiple times (botw, donkey Kong Country games, Mario Kart, xenoblade and more from what I have seen). It’s just that this is only the digital versions. Physical copies? Yeah, you’re right there.
Games are still too expensive at full price though and even with 33% off it is still usually too much for me if I’m not already familiar with the franchise and know I will enjoy the game.
With enough mass a building can definitely maintain sub 25 degrees for at least a week given proper insulation and proper handeling of the situation by the occupants. The problem here is that most people have no clue how to handle heatwaves and open and close blinds/windows at wrong times.
I live in a fairly standard 1980s European rental house and I can definitely keep it around 22 degrees when it’s 30+ outside for a week. No AC needed, just concrete construction and proper heat management.
But in the end both your and my experience are anecdotal so not very useful as an argument. Important to note might also be that even if a house is brick on the outside it does not mean it is also brick on the inside. You need the brick/stone inside for good heat management! I have seen people make this mistake before and therefore they did not understand how to properly deal with heat in their homes.

Cars - For Car Enthusiasts@lemmy.world•Gas nears $5. Why aren’t electric vehicles selling in the US?English

You can very well use it as a lubricant but only in situations where lubrication is required temporarily :)

Nintendo@lemmy.world•Is it safe to charge the Switch 1 with through USB?English
1·1 個月前Same for me. I am using a launch day switch. The battery is a bit weird now though, it seems like the system can’t read the battery level correctly anymore as it tends to drop to 1% within 10 minutes (from full charge) and stay there for a full hour of play. Not sure if this is a side effect of using random chargers.

13·1 個月前Even if you get that all sorted there is still the form factor as well. Consoles usually offer a small form factor for their performance which van be attractive for people who game on their living room tv. Pc gaming is still mostly associated with desktop gaming which is not for everyone.

Sooo… Currently unstable regions get a bit less unstable and stable regions get to become unstable? I guess we would be nicely averaging out then. Is this us government communist after all? Equality for all, but not the equality anyone desired! :(

AvocadoSandwichtoAsshole Design and Crappy Design@slrpnk.net•wisdom of button batteries -- anyone think they are a good idea?
1·2 個月前How are these things dying on you this quick? I have a kitchen scale that uses the same battery type and it has last me 3 years and counting (and yes, it is actually seeing a fair bit of use). It must be shitty design either on the products or the battery quality or something
Did you run into any issues while connecting jellyfin? For me it does see the music stored on jellyfin, but when trying to start it it gives an error.
I get that this post is a bit of a satirical question, but as a serious answer to the question. I think it’s because for a lot of people it is impossible (or feels impossible) to not consume fossil fuel products. If we then label it as bad then we feel like we are thus the bad guy while we feel powerless to not be that.
Basically people are forced to be something they don’t want to be thus to cope they make it their personality because that gives a sense of control over choices we really do not have a say in.

And yet not everyone can become a nuclear engineer or rocket scientist, programm architect, lawyer and so on, so your “experience can be taught, leadership has to be learned” falls apart pretty quickly.
Leadership is not in anyway less then any other job that you can become an expert in. It is just focused on social sciences instead of engineering for example and both can be taught. It’s dumb to say that leadership is something special, its just that it is the more accessible of fields that have a high skill ceiling as it is present in pretty much every work environment.
Tldr, I think your end point is dumb, but I do agree that people management is hard and is definitely a skill. The best leaders are experts in their own right and it is just a matter of contextualising leadership as a skill you can become an expert in.
