I don’t think anything’s wrong with trees, but maybe we could also have some of these as well as trees ?

First of all nobody is proposing to replace existing trees with that, that would be silly! AFAIU the people who created this also don’t want these to be used where trees could be planted. They are outspokenly designed for already densely packed cities that are already highly polluted and hostile to trees, to start turning things around. Rebecca Watson’s 6min take

  • I’m desperately hoping for these things:

    1. the AfD gets disbanded as soon as possible. If Germany keeps dragging its feet it just gives them more ammunition. The legality is clear on this. And I know, there will be protest from their constituency, and ranting and raving and pulling of hairs, but it just needs to be done.
    2. the - some - other parties figure out how to use social media properly. Die Linke seems to have it down rn. I’m not sure if this requires bringing “cool” people to the front while “uncool” people do the actual work / hold the actual power in the back, but if it does, just make it so! Because it certainly would be better than uncool people like Merz being the populist face of the party while at the same time making policy that seems to aim more at saving face than actual policy.

  • I would not want to call this a bug. It’s a limitation at worst.
And even after reading to the end I have no idea if it’s dictated by kwin itself or by the underlying server.
It has accumulated slightly different complaints from different users to the point that the discussion became muddied.
One dev pointed out that the underlying gui server disallows this behavior, but during the discussion it has become increasingly unclear what “this behavior” even is, or what the “supposedly easy” fix would be.

    My thoughts/experience:

    • my window manager (under Xorg) can be configured to react differently on mouse-up or mouse-down. Whether one clicks on the client window or titlebar doesn’t matter, it goes to the wm first.
    • the supposedly unsolveable problem practically never happens to me because I like to arrange my windows side-by-side, on different workspaces etc. but never on top of each other.
    • lastly, dragging and dropping between application windows used to be so hit and miss on Linux that I stopped doing it at all, or at least not expecting it to succeed. No idea if it got better in the past decade. This might have something to do with the fact that I’m not using a full-blown DE.

Question to you: is the desired behavior possible to achieve with some other WM? Can you disprove the claim made by one or two of the devs, that it just isn’t possible to solve within kwin/KDE because the underlying graphical server is responsible for this limitation?

  • But I went at a relaxing pace.

I have a friend with a hall/barn type of thing who allows me to do it there. It’s fun. He smokes joints and talks about all his cars while I do my thing. I learned not to let him touch my car or explain things to me right after he smoked one.

But I have a tougher problem right now - CO emissions are too high. Need more than a barn.
