Is AMD finally realizing that unless they lower prices their tenuous hold on the GPU market is going to slip away entirely?

I’d give it 50% odds at best.

What does GRE stand for? And why make the naming even more confusing? Weren’t the XX50s supposedly the “in between” models already? Then they did the 7900 GRE to have something between the 7800 XT and the 7900 XT, and now we get a 7650 GRE?! Why no 7850 XT or 7650 XT? Is this thing going to be better or worse than a 7600 XT?

      GRE

I think it’s Golden Rabbit Edition, which used to mean this was a variant dedicated for the Chinese market.

I thought Golden rabbit was only because it was the year of the rabbit when it was released

I guess it stuck as “this one kind halfway between mid and high end” card .

I would suggest looking into a used Nvidia card instead. Something like an RTX 2080 or 3080 (or one of their variants), depending on your budget. DLSS alone makes these vastly superior to anything AMD has on offer.

I bought an RTX 2080 last year for around 200 bucks. It’s still very competent at 1440p. There are only a few games that lock away the highest texture settings due to this card only having 8 GB of VRAM.

A 2080 is still more powerful than base PS5 and Xbox Series X, so it’ll likely do fine for the rest of this console generation.

What’s the rest of your hardware like? I’m asking, because a slow CPU can rather drastically limit the performance of a GPU.

I rebuilt just after the pandemic so that’s good, graphics cards were still too expensive though so I kept my college card from the previous build
