SmartWings Blinds Inconsistently Opening & Closing - eviltoast

I just received my SmartWings blinds last week and really like them so far, but I’m having a small issue. I have them scheduled to open to 40%, but some of them go up to 60% instead. Even weirder, it’s not the same blinds that do it. It’s like they take turns on who’s going to open to far today.

At night, and will also open all the way even though the routine says to close.

Any idea how I can fix this? If not, I can try changing their drivers which I saw on some Reddit posts.

I would recommend Home Assistant and integration with a protocol SmartWings supports. On quick Google looks like both zigbee and z-wave are an option. Then you can control exactly from Home Assistant what they do and when.

Would that really change their behavior? I feel like that would just be setting the up the same way they currently are, just with more steps, and probably just have the same issues.

Plus a lot of similar issues I see online are people using Home Assistant with them. So I don’t think that will work.

I have not studied their API, but I would expect to find commands to start movement (open and close) and stop movement, perhaps even to move a specific amount. If the commands result in random amounts of movement the product is totally useless and no control software will help.

If the API commands work in a predictable way, then it is definitely possible to control movements accurately with Home Assistant or some other suitable software that is able to talk to the API.

Update: I tried installing the drivers online and it seems to have fixed the issue. Here’s what I did:

    • Enroll in this channel. Then hit Ctrl+F, and type [your motor type] + “window treatment”. For example, I have Zigbee motors, so I typed “Zigbee Window Treatment”. That driver is the one I need
    • Click Install
    • Open your SmartThings app, tap on your blinds, tap the 3 dots in the top right, tap Driver, and then select Select Different Driver. Use the one that you installed from that channel, It should have “mc” at the end of its name
      • Do that for all your blinds
    • Done!
