Amazing experience with barefoot shoes for intense walking - eviltoast

Hi all

I’m using barefoot shoes for a few years now, and was amazed by how comfortable they are for me.

I remember each time when buying new shoes that I would have blisters and pain for at least two weeks.

When I bought barefoot shoes, I expected to need a few months to get adjusted to them. But they felt comfortable from the very beginning! (maybe because I used to walk on my toes during my childhood, even got support soles for that, but didn’t really help)

More recently, I participated in a 100km within 24h walk. I expected to fail because it was the first time I was participating in a challenge like this, but I made it!

Obviously I was tired and the last part was quite difficult still. But I was amazed that I managed to walk for more the first 50km without any discomfort or blisters.

      Thanks!

I didn’t really expect it to go this well either. I had never done this kind of challenge before. And I only started recently with more serious hikes. So It’s quite interesting for me too.

I remember not liking hiking/walking that much before. So maybe the shoes make a big difference.

Damn 100km is nuts for first barefoot shoe. was it pavement or trail? both? I have been using only barefoot shoes for the past decade now and I still can’t handle much pavement walking before my feet and knees give up on life, while forest I could probably go all day.

Mostly pavement. Not the nicest walk I would say, but it’s a well know challenge in my country.

Lots of people sitting on their porch to encourage people. Typically about 10k people participate every year

      I use vivobarefoot gobi 3.

I’m using them for about 3 years and the bottom is wearing down, but maybe that’s normal since I use them for everything. Work, walking, running, hiking.

I’m not sure what I should expect. In terms of comfort and looks, I think they are great. But I suppose it would be even better if they were more durable.
