Here’s a better question. Why don’t you have a Lego animated movie of your life called Piece by Piece coming out soon?

Because my life isn’t as together as Pharrell Williams’s, and my movie has a soundtrack by Papa Roach and is entitled Cut My Life into Pieces.

That makes me think about what soundtrack my life would have… Linkin Park would have to be a top choice. Constantly reinventing myself every few years, but never not filled with angst. I would probably say “Numb” would be the title of my movie, assuming we focused on my 20s.

I understood it to be sort of a joke. A way to entertain and not take it so seriously because biographies of living artists are already a massive circle-jerk.

Universal Pictures bought the rights to make Lego movies, but that didn’t include the rights to any of the popular characters from The Lego Movie or its spin-offs. Those stayed with Warner Brothers (even though WB can no longer use Lego, so those characters are functionally dead).

Universal also didn’t get the rights to any of the franchise characters typically associated with Lego, so they can’t use Boba Fett, or Batman, or Gandalf, or Harry Potter, or even Jack Sparrow.

So they’re sitting on this huge IP and have no way to actually use it. And so Pharrell comes along and says he wants to make a documentary about himself, and they say nah that’s boring, nobody wants to see that. Then someone realizes they’re going to lose the rights to Lego if they don’t make a movie with them soon. And here we are.

Most of Lego movies and games are funny and one of the few that really entertain adults and kids so I don’t really care if it’s about pharrel or ww2 history, if they follow the lego recipe I’ll watch it
