Elderly landlady leaves most of her properties to tenants - eviltoast

An 87-year-old woman from Lemiers in Limburg who owned substantial real estate in nearby Vaals has left most of it to her tenants in her will.

According to the Telegraaf, Anneliese Houppermans, who earned her money from a successful fruit and vegetable business, owned several houses in the community. She never married or had children, and her ties to her family had faded over the years.

basically, Lemmy doesn’t think people should be allowed to rent. You either own a house or live in a hotel. No inbetween.

I think it’s more like “people shouldn’t be allowed to charge others exorbitant prices for a basic necessity of life”

Yeah I keep fluctuating between leaving lemmy and coming back due to its love for extreme stances, its the same type of vibe/reason I never really touched Twitter or Tumblr, but unfortunately reddit is now… reddit

Linux, vegans, anti-renting, autists (literally, not a slur); it’s a good mix of the worst of Reddit, without the racism & nazis of Reddit. The biggest longterm difference is that almost no-one on Lemmy has any skills or experience. Flying Squid is 47 and only discovered that coupons existed on the internet last month. There aren’t knowledge experts on topics like Reddit has.

Honestly, Reddit has been looking better and better. Overall, conversations are more wholesome than on Lemmy. Which is weird as fuck.

I mean, don’t get me wrong: r/conservative and plenty of places are cesspools of filth, but you can get banned from reasonable subs by posting or joining garbage subs. It’s done a lot to make things less shit.

CEO is still garbage, mods are mixed, etc.

On the autist point, is a bit of a side tangent, but I hate that they’ve decided I cant fucking use my childhood diagnosis anymore because the guy who termed it was a Nazi, even though before this decision the name Asperger NEVER made me think of the Nazi, and only made me think of Autism. The DSM retired that diagnosis retired that diagnosis anyways in favour of making Autism a spectrum, so even if the asshats don’t shit on me for continuing to use a term that was a useful descriptor for me since childhood, its still going to fade over time.

I wouldnt be surprised if conversations on reddit have gotten better if half the people who irritated me on Lemmy used to be redditors since the modpocalypse. I’m still having trouble feeling like I’m rewarding spez for his actions if I end up back in reddit though.

And finally on the conservative point, at least Conservatives are honest about hating gay people and minorities. The Tankies here screetch the loudest about slurs and protecting minorities and lgbtq people, but they support regimes that dont blink twice while crushing those same populations

re: Tankies: I’m 90% sure that’s part of the inexperienced and immature crowd; they - like the vegans and the anti-renting crowd - all have super tunnel vision. Zero nuance or discussion. They fixate on one point to the exclusion of any sanity (which is heavily a spectrum symptom).

HOWEVER, I should add in my rant, there is one other odd / good thing about Lemmy: significantly higher ratio of non-Americans. More language/ communication barriers I’ve encountered from it, and they are still mostly the aforementioned groups - but hey, not 99% Americans here.

re: Asperger’s: heh, I get you. Honestly, imo: own it. Like the LGBT crowd taking the word “gay” back, I see no problem with “Aspys” reclaiming Aspergers.

I hope you’re right with the Tankies, and yeah, I’m not really going to let anyone take an identity/descriptor from me with my own autism, even if the people attempting to do so are also on the spectrum. I never noticed the ratio difference of Americans to Non Americans, although I guess as a Canadian I’m not sure where I fall on that ratio xD

I dunno if I have much further to add in this conversation, I mostly just wanted to respond to show I’ve read and appreciated your own input!
