I get the impression that “rules don’t apply to the higher levels of hierarchy” is a central element to hierarchy.

Went to catholic school K-12… all boys high school for 9-12. Never had to worry about impressing girls while at school. Would wear a green shirt, blue tie, and grey slacks with brown shoes and a buzz cut. Looked like I couldn’t dress myself. Now multiply that by 1000 and that’s what the entire student body looked like.

Turned to atheism in grade 10 and no one at the catholic school. No one cared. It was great.
