Lawsuit seeks to block Washington ‘parental rights’ initiative - eviltoast

I understand why our legislature made the choice it did - so they could retain power over the bill and hopefully change it next session - but very grateful for the ACLU stepping in here to block the bill from going into effect at all. Fingers crossed they succeed in the courts.

I don’t understand these fucking bigots. They say the parent has absolute power to homeschool, enslave and even corporally punish their kids, but at the same time some other parent has not the right to provide mainstream heatlhcare for their own kid. This is another instance like the free speech nonsense, that they are fascists that want to impose their own views on others.

This is the only thing you need to understand: They want power over your choices. They want you to suffer. It’s about control. Like a mental illness that has been learned, similar to mass hysteria.

…ACLU of Washington, Legal Voice and QLaw, the three organizations spearheading the lawsuit, argue the initiative “misled state lawmakers and the public.”

“It violates the State Constitution because it fails to disclose how it revises and affects existing laws,” the complaint says. “This causes confusion about the legal duties of schools, their staff and contractors, and school-based healthcare providers, as well as the rights of students.”

The lawsuit also contends that the initiative would strip important privacy protections for medical and mental health records for LGBTQ+ students, youth of color and students from other marginalized backgrounds.
