'Looking for Miss U': Potato Corner addresses viral job posting - eviltoast

MANILA, Philippines — Popular snack brand Potato Corner said that it “deeply regrets the oversight” and stressed that it is “committed to fostering an inclusive environment” after a job posting of one of its soon-to-open branches went viral.

"We are addressing this recent incident involving a well-meaning but insensitive job posting. The Potato Corner branch in Ventura Mall is not yet operational but will open soon.

"At Potato Corner, we firmly believe in the value of diversity and inclusion, true to what the brand provides to our cherished guests and valued business partners. We do not support or condone discriminatory hiring practices.

“We deeply regret the oversight in the job posting. We, together with our business partners, are working to ensure that such incidents will not happen in the future,” the Potato Corner Management said in a message to Philstar.com.

The management said that the job hiring did not go through its main office. It added that they are working on ensuring that the mishap will not happen again.

“We remain committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and is given a chance to contribute and succeed,” the statement ended.

Baka mas malaki pa ang gastos sa beauty regimen nyan kaysa sa magiging sweldo nya. Plus the fact that you’re in front of the fryer all day long, it wouldn’t have been very good for one’s skin.

The ad follows the basic gist of the overqualified template. They’re not seriously looking for anyone that hits those bullet points. As my man gradenko often points out, it’s to gatekeep the position for a specific social class — mahirap but just a tier above SM saleslady level.

This specific ad however, appears to be a deliberate exaggeration of that just to go viral… so, good job to Potato Corner’s PR team.

You know, I thought employee hiring and screening would have been one of the services offered by the brand to their franchisees, given that such services are better with scale. Of course, it could have been true but that particular franchisee (Potato Corner Ventura Mall, Dasmariñas, Cavite) opted out of it and went with their own recruitment. Not to side with management here, but there are just some things one is better off leaving to larger entities. It’s not as if the backlash would be directed to them and them alone.

What I want to hear now is the side of the franchisee, but they seemingly deleted the post and their page.
