The Internet tells me it takes 30 to 60 minutes for edibles to take effect, but I don't feel the full effects until almost 2 hours later! - eviltoast

Anyone else have this?

You have to say the activation words: “Man, these edibles ain’t shit”.

Then you buckle up because the stoner gods will hear that shit and punish/reward you accordingly

You forgot the most important part. You have to utter those words while standing up from the couch.

Luckily, I was pretty cautious the first times trying them as I’m pretty new to all this, and I just sat on them for for a few hours. After the first hour or so I was indeed saying “these ain’t shit!”. Later I was indeed rewarded for the wait. lol

I wonder what effect it would have, to chew the edible for a long time rather than swallowing it? Like, would it not absorb the cannabinoids sublingually much quicker than going through the stomach?

I do this with shrooms and it always seems to bring the effects on quicker for me than my friends who just swallow it.

I definitely notice the oral absorption with edibles with just normal eating (not sure if everyone gets that? I have a pretty low tolerance), I’ve never thought to keep it in my mouth on purpose though. I’ll be testing that out next time I have some.

I was planning to go on a trip later today so I’ll be trying that trick with shrooms, thanks for the tip.

Edit - I’m mostly back to earth now; I really liked it. normally I feel kinda weird and tingly for the ~hour it takes for shrooms to kick in and sometimes that can put me in a bad headspace, but there was a nice and very noticeable immediate effect with chewing them for ages that helped me get into the right mood to appreciate the ‘main event’ more. I really needed it :)

Weird that it says 30 to 60 minutes, 2 hours is the correct time. It’s quicker for some people so maybe that’s where it comes from but to be clear 2 hours is correct. Personally, it takes about an hour and a half, but most people I know are at 2 hours

I’ve found for me that it varies depending on what I ate. Did I take the edibles on an empty stomach then eat something with fat in it? I’ll be feeling it in 30 minutes.
Did I take them after eating a carb rich meal? Well I just wasted those edibles. I have no clue when, or if, they’ll kick in.
In general however, it’s about an hour for me.

If I want to get high quick I just drink half a can of like 25mg soda

Shit kicks in in like 20 minutes for me

A friend introduced me to these and I’m so confused. Why do the drinks hit so quick but gummies take so long?

Hey, I know this is a bit old, but to clarify the reason is bioavailability. Your body absorbs liquids lot quicker than solids or semi-liquids. Also, the way these drinks keep the thc in solution tends to be a fatty substance like MCT which is both more bioavailable and spreads out the thc, allowing it to be absorbed easier and quicker. This is especially needed in the legal side where equal dosage must be kept over the entire liquid

Yeah, that’s normal. For me gummies do start having a bit of an effect around an hour, and really settle in around 90 minutes-2 hours. My state limits the THC content to 10mg apiece so I just pop two.

You really want to find live hash rosin gummies, preferably solventless. Most gummies just extract the THC and you don’t get as much of an effect. But the live hash rosin ones also extract the CBB and terpenes as well, which makes it more bioavailable to your body. The reason why different strains have different effects on people are the CBD and terpene content, so they’re important. Hits harder and a little bit earlier.

I did see a dispensary nearby selling some gummies that claimed they found a new way of extracting everything, so they’re supposed to hit much faster at like 15-20 minutes. But they were $70 for just a few gummies, so I declined.

To celebrate one year surviving open heart surgery, I bought a pack of 10 gummies. Was told they were 5mg each and to start by taking one.

Took 1, felt nothing, waited 30 minutes, took 2 more. Felt nothing. Took 3 more, felt nothing, waited an hour, took the last 4.

Still felt nothing. By then it was bed time so I just went to sleep. Nothing, nada. At all.

I found out later that this is a thing…

Thc is fat soluable, so eating a higher fat meal before or right after can help the timer speed up some.

The gummie edibles that I’ve tried aren’t tasty enough to go in based on flavor alone… but that post-edible haribo better watch out.

I only do tinctures and mints now. Nothing that I could ever find yummy. Too many “surely one little bite of that rice crispy treat won’t get me high” or “another piece of that chocolate won’t get me too high “.

It can vary a lot depending on the type of concentrate you’re consuming and the method that was used. We have nanotech drinks that start hitting in 15 minutes. For cheap distillate edibles I find that they tend to kick in quicker too usually around 45-1 hour for me.

It takes an hour or two for me before they hit. Early on circa 2013-14 when I was discovering edibles trying to feel the high, I hate the whole chocolate bar! What an awesome experience.
