Does anyone know if theres a way to use 3rd party keyboards on the front screen of the 2023 Motorola Razr? - eviltoast

I use heliboard for my keyboard and quite enjoy it but on the 2023 RAZR+ it only allows Gboard to be used on the outer display. No other keyboard will fail to crash on the front screen.

I know its a niche issue but this is Android. Surely there’s a way around it. Either with some kind of context-aware keyboard that only used Gboard on the outer display or some way to get other keyboards working on the front display.

Maybe try emailing the dev asking to add support for RAZR+. Some devs actually respond to requests on emails. The dev probably doesn’t have that phone, so if they do respond, they might ask your help debugging the issue. Again, not all devs do this so don’t get your hopes up, but I’ve seen some devs actually do this.

I used to have the Razr+ and downgraded to the normal Razr for this reason. Didnt use the front screen as much as I thought I would anyway, and it is very fragile. If you watch a teardown the back of the screen has space for it to break easier.

When google eventually makes the Pixel Flip (hopefully) thats when you will see better support for the extra screen because as of right now that entirely depends on closed source manufacture dependent software from motorola and samsung.

I think you accidentally put a hex on me. Just this morning I dropped my phone and smashed the front display :(

Local repair shop wants $229 to replace it. Better then the 569 Motorola wanted to fix it. Right to repair for the win.
