Imagine though, that you had a career supporting the government on average pay and when they finally needed you to step up you got harassed by antivaxers. Wondering what it was all for someone offers to double your salary.
It would be hard to pass up.

Fair point, I’m not blaming him particularly, just lamenting that how things look is often more important than how things are.
