    Wrote my resignation letter ahead of sending it tomorrow (employer already knows it’s coming). That’s probably the most enjoyable letter that I’ve ever written. A little bit of sentiment thrown in there, thank you for the opportunity yadda yadda.

    So so glad this day has come. The shit they put me through since asking me to move on, honestly I don’t remember a time I had to face so many situations so quickly where I felt like throwing up from nerves and anxiety each time. But I got through it.

    There’s talk of putting me on gardening leave, which I think I’m ok with. They were saying they were happy for me to finish early so I can start my contractor role sooner, but I’d have to agree to shorten my notice pay. I think I’ll take the pay for doing nothing.

    Today I did what I had to do
    For my sanity.
    Told my father all my feelings;
    “I’m a travesty”.
    He wasn’t there when I was small,
    “Are you here for me?”
    Does he care for me?
    We barely speak.
    But he said he is proud of me,
    And my journey.
    That he’d support me always,
    And that he does love me.

    I told my work I’m done;
    I won’t be coming in
    Ever again, I’m through with phones
    I live for me.
    I applied for a course
    In a career I’ve never been in;
    If I want change it’s up to me,
    I can’t keep going on like this.

    One of my visitors asked why you can’t get period specific pain relief medication in Australia, like Panadol Menstrual - I dug up an ABC article on the 2015 Reckitt Benkeiser/Nurofen lawsuit, and it had an old clip from the Checkout c. 2013.

    I felt so proud at that moment for Australia having the ACCC (defanged as it has been over the years) and consumer affairs shows like Gruen and The Checkout (I learned so much about marketing tactics that I take for granted now, even if Will Anderson is chronically unfunny).

    The lack of shows like The Checkout these days is sad. Are there any well-researched contemporary Aus successors I wonder. My niece is rather sheltered so I’d like her to learn some of this stuff and understand that you can fight back against bullies. We come from a place that is still so overwhelmingly anti-consumer that it’s not funny

    It’s been a big day for Mr Woof - first a bath, then a meet and greet with a new pet sitter. He’s decided to stick his head under the pillow and hide from the world for a while.

      May I ask what kind of dry dog food Mr Woof prefers and also how old he is. I’m looking for a new dry food for my little dog because I don’t think he’s into Vetalogica any more.

        Mr Woof is 12 years old and prefers Optimum small breed food for it’s small pieces. Miss Meow is also a bit partial to it when given any opportunity to get her gums on leftovers.

        I get the Royal Canin Small Adult 8kg, but I’m looking to move to something with a consideration to joint health. A fish oil pill squirted on the kibble wasn’t appreciated.

          Late to this but if it’s helpful - some pet foods contain green lipped mussels which are good for joint health, or you can buy dried ones for treats. That might be less controversial.

          Melbcat has also gone onto Solensia to slow progression and ease the pain of arthritis

          I was looking at that one and Ivory Coat. I’m looking for a small or softer, grain free biscuit with at least 65% meat. Vetalogica hits all those except for the softer bit. I think he’s over the flavour though.

            I really feel like kibble has got a lot harder. I saw a marked change. Maybe manufacturers are baking the pieces bone dry like pottery to overcompensate against the risk of mould

              Me! The disc bit, at least. I have a disc issue in my lower back that flares up occasionally and it hurts so much when it happens. On bad days, I’m unable to get out of bed.

              I fight it by being stupidly active, offsetting the fact that I sit at a desk 8 hours a day. But yeah, if I don’t run for 5+ days in a row, my back starts hurting.

        I have survived, slightly moistened but otherwise uninjured. Mr Woof is now safely out of the bath and in his robe, attempting to recover from the trauma by drying himself off on the carpet.

          Phew!!

          I remember as a kid, I was the one usually assigned dog bath duty. We had a Samoyed…

          At least when he was soaked right through both layers of his coat, the extra weight made him so heavy that resisting was too much effort and he just chilled out.

            Mr Woof is fortunately much smaller and while he has long hair it is not that thick. I also have a nice setup with a raised bath and a collar that clips to the side of the tub so he can’t jump out. It’s primarily the dog shakes that are the problem, Mr Woof wants to make sure if he has to be wet I do too.

    Well it’s already happened twice now.

    After being away regional since xmas and back in the melbs… I’ve said accidentally hello to 2 random strangers whilst walking. Felt like an axe murderer with the stares I got.

    The ABC having the headline “The rental property sector is not a net taxpayer” is a little misleading IMO.

    In many European countries rental properties are taxpayer subsidised. However in turn for getting the subsidies, the property is subject to rent control or a long term lease.

    Holy fuck. If anyone remembers a nu metal band from high school called “Kittie”, they just released a new song after like, 13 years of nothing. And it’s awesome!!!

    So the Australian women’s cricket team is in the process of destroying South Africa.
    The current score is 8/55, which is a pretty ominous start for a five-day test. I suspect it may not go the full five days. Given that it’s also 40° here, that may not be such a bad thing.
