wow, I’m surprised how many fatal attacks there are from blacks. maybe it’s a “frequency x probability” thing where attacks happen so much more often, a lower chance of death still means an overall higher count.

I mean, I’m not saying we should test this more, but I generally though the black bears mostly avoided you.

The blacks are generally known to be more aggressive.

Grizzlies are territorial but not really interested in people as food so the common advice is to play dead. They just don’t want you around.

Black bears will generally try to avoid people, but if they are hungry, they will absolutely attack a human. They will also attack if you accidentally sneak up on one; an important thing to know when hiking.

The general saying is “If it’s brown, lie down. If it’s black, fight back. If it’s white, goodnight.”

You don’t fuck with Polar bears.

Don’t most bears generally avoid humans? I’m guessing most of these attacks were self-defense or getting between her mother and her cubs.

yeah that’s what I thought. Grizzlies and Polars will F you up much more ‘often’ - but black bears I thought were much less aggressive (as a default) towards humans.
