Taylor Swift doesn’t belong to you - eviltoast

Michigan Advance’s Susan J. Demas opines…

Trump is reportedly preoccupied with Swift endorsing Biden again (which doesn’t seem like it would be a big surprise), muttering that he’s “more popular” than the megastar, while aides are chest-beating that they’ll start a “holy war” against her. The hope seems to be to intimidate Swift into silence or make the whole thing seem cringe to dampen excitement if she does become a Biden surrogate.

But it gets weirder.

The MAGA Swift hate seems to have reached a bizarre tipping point as she and Kelce have been hailed as the All-American couple, a veritable Norman Rockwell painting come to life. Real Americans are Trumpers, so the lore and Rust Belt diner-fed punditry goes. This simply cannot stand.

“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month,” former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy posted. “And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall.”

And lo, this election’s wackiest conspiracy theory was born. Kelce and Swift, you see, aren’t two rich, crazy kids in love. No, they’re integral parts of a Deep State psyop to ensure Biden’s reelection.

Is the GOP’s desperation making them (moreso) insane or is the GOP’s insanity making them desperate?

BTW, congrats, Swifty, on your record-breaking Grammy for Midnights last night! 🏆 💿 🎶 Your bank transfer from the Illuminati is forthwith. 🤣

So, the GOP went all in on a reality TV star who spent his entire life trying to become famous, and now they are losing their minds because he’s being upended by a much bigger star?

Lack of self awareness is their defining quality.

Watch this tape of Donnie getting caught in a giant lie. He doesn’t get angry or upset, he’s perfectly happy to sit in his own shit because the camera is still rolling and that’s all he cares about.

Or like recently when Trump was asked if he’s paying his E. Jean Carol judgements from PAC money. El Cheeto just prattled on about he won on an appeal he has yet to file. He was acting shocked that he lost anything. And at this point I can’t tell if he’s acting for the base or just that out of touch.

Not just a bigger star, but a WOMAN star who is bigger. They have a new, That Woman.

And all this would have blown over with nothing at all political, if they just rolled with it during the football season. But instead they harassed Talyor Swift and she got annoyed and let everyone know to vote Biden. It just like when Fox News forced Fox Sports to make Colin Kapernick’s kneeling an issue. He had been doing it for 2 years with no one knowing and caring, until the Right Wing decided to make it a public issue.

The lemmings in their 30s and older might remember when Britney Spears was having a very public and unfortunate meltdown, a bunch of conspiracy theories started cropping up that Britney was a CIA plant designed to distract everyone from Bush’s (Dubya) incredible failures.

To the morons of the early aughts, I say that it’s possible to have a meltdown while standing in a room with an idiot monster. To the morons of today, I say that just because your idiot monster is also a narcissist doesn’t make everything about you.

I actually was confused in all sincerity by @thefartographer@lemm.ee’s comment. Who are these “lemmings”, “morons” and “idiot monster”? Am I the only one “in the room” who doesn’t know? Are these condescending terms adding anything to the conversation?

But, hey, I hope you feel better.

I understand the confusion now. The honorable Fartographer was referring to the users of Lemmy as lemmings. Our mascot.

Edit: sorry if I’m being coy, I understand the confusion, and I thought it was a bit funny

Maybe this will clear it up:

Lemmings = someone who browses Lemmy

the morons of the early aughts = people who thought Britney Spears was a CIA OP

room with an idiot monster. = Probably referring to Spears’ father and conservatorship.

            morons of today = MAGAs

idiot monster is also a narcissist = Trump

Are Lemmy users not known as lemmings? It’s possible I imagined that or came up with it, but I could have sworn were were all lemmings.

Upon rereading, I’m not proud of my use of “morons,” but I’m referring to those who equate the private lives of celebrities to some sort of shadow government operation. In the early 2000s (the aughts), Britney Spears had a very public and very drawn out meltdown. When she needed help, she instead became, at best, the butt of jokes, and, at worst, was believed to be part of a deep state plan to distract the public from the near-daily horrible news that came out from the Whitehouse or about the Whitehouse.

In the early aughts, George W. Bush (the “W” is pronounced “Dubya” to make fun of our southern accents. My dad actually pronounced the letter w that way because… Texas?) was the idiot monster that people said Britney Spears was shaving her head and not wearing panties to distract the world from. Now, the idiot monster is Trump. Once again, the media has latched onto the private life of a pop icon and found a way to enrage the masses without focusing on real political issues.

The GOP platform is now whatever a spoiled, narcissistic old fart is in his 70s is annoyed about today and I’m expected to just take these people seriously. I have to interact with them on a daily basis. There are tens of millions of the fuckers at least. How is this real life?

she and Kelce have been hailed as the All-American couple, a veritable Norman Rockwell painting come to life.

Okay, but they’re far above a real American couple in status, riches, and lifestyle. This may be the least important part of this whole thing, but they’re still part of the way upper classes with zero of the problems the rest of us have.

Can we stop worshipping the rich and famous in general, please?

Why do people allow it? We’ll he’s not running anymore so he doesn’t have to care if people think he’s an asshole (he never cared)

But I think Kelce counts as a public figure so it’s like basically impossible to slander a public figure. Basically the first amendment sues and Kelce cannot really sue for damages.

If you or I lost our jobs because Vivek said we are Pentagon operatives, we totally could sue him.

How do we make it stop? I am quite reasonably not caring about T. Swift, international billionaire. Where is the big red switch that goes CLANK and the lights all shut off so I can just not worry about this woman’s life for a couple months?
