I definetly recommend it. It also has many more settings , features than newpipe . It is in the main repo . Just search pipepipe .
FYI: Newpipe is NOT a youtube fork. It’s an app build from scratch.
i meant client. Accidently typed fork because i was talking about a fork . Anyway its now fixed in the post.
Ah yeah that makes more sense. :) Cheers
My YouTube use is quite limited. I was using the no longer maintained Newpipe Sponsorblock, recently switched to Tubular (rework of aforementioned). I also use Freetube Cordova and Invidious through UnTrackme.
Is there a reason for me to switch to this other fork? I watch probably 5-10 minutes a month.
Oh shit I had no idea Newpipe Sponsorblock was archived I still use it quit a bit. Any idea what happened there since the dev seemed quit active.
*edit: Also, is there a new maintained Newpipe fork with Sponsorblock integrated?
I wasn’t following it too much but I think they wanted to rewrite it. So, from the same developer is Tubular.
Ah perfect thanks. I searched for Tubular but couldn’t find anything.
Can’t talk about the others but it is defenetly more polished , stable and better than invideous in my opinion .
OK, thanks, I will take a look
I think at this point, what’s needed is a wiki page comparing the various forks and options. I’m not a heavy *Tube user, and I can’t keep track.
AFAICT, there are at least five active Tube front-end apps:
- NewPipe
- NewPipe x Sponsorblock
- FreeTube (the only one that isn’t a NP fork)
- Tubular (how does this differ from MP x SB?)
- PipePipe
Active, committed maintainers are one of the most important features of any such tool, as Google constantly works to sabotage alt front-ends and timely work-around updates are critical. But some sort of feature comparison matrix would be nice.
Tubular (how does this differ from MP x SB?)
NewPipe x Sponsorblock is dead and Tubular is the continuation of it by the same author.
Ah. Thanks.
Interesting. I’m still using NewPipe x Sponsorblock and haven’t had any issues with it. Any idea why the change? It looks more or less identical.

That’s interesting. I started to have issues loading Youtube videos a few months ago and had to switch back to regular NewPipe. (I’m using Tubular now.)

I’m not sure why the app got rebranded to Tubular. I think it’s because the author has ambitions for their fork beyond just Sponsorblock and Return Youtube Dislike and didn’t want to just append another feature to the app name every time they add a new feature.
Why is this better than NewPipe? I much prefer apps that focus on 1 thing and dont support 20 additional services.
It’s great for people who like vocaloid because you can listen to your favorite songs across yt, niconico, and even bilibili.
I know a few different people who have a few of their songs made using vocaloid and other related software on yt but the majority of their work is on one of the other platforms and pipepipe is so much more convenient than having both the niconico app and bilibili app installed.
Because newpipe is now being rewritten so no one is maintaining it and pipepipe haveany features newpipe don’t .New pipe too support other services .
Newpipe is not being rewritten. They have chosen to do progressive improvements instead:
The source you linked even says they are going to rewrite the app piece by piece and it will be slow .
I did not know NewPipe was unmaintained. I switched to Tubular. Thank you for the post!
Newpipe is not being rewritten and definitely not unmaintained: https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/discussions/10118?tab=readme-ov-file#discussioncomment-8180701
NewPipe is maintained. They just haven’t been adding many features recently. And Tubular is just new pipe with Sponsorblock and return YouTube dislike
I guess you could say kinda maintained . They just maintain it to keep it barely working and i support that because it wouldn’t matter in the end anyway as they are rewriting huge parts of their code.
Great recommendation I was able to import over my stuff from newpipe x Sponsorblock. Nice to get comment replies working for the first time.
Glad you are having a good experiance .
Here’s its link
EDIT : it supported channel tabs before NewPipe added them and also shows comment replies.
Thx for the recommendation, this seems to be pretty great, specially to access other services like bilibili and niconico without spyware alongside youtube 🤙
Melcowe
Does it have Sponsor Block? I can’t seem to find it in Settings.
Its there as the last option in settings
Ah, looks like the fdroid repo I have on my frontend isn’t the latest version.
Going to unobtainium direct github now shows SponsorBlock. Ty.
Same author as newpipe, so no sponsorblock.
This is not true why spread misinformation ? It does have sponsorblock .
My bad, got it mixed up with this https://github.com/polymorphicshade/Tubular
Tubular does have sponsorblock tho. So.
it says sponsorblock in the features list:
https://github.com/InfinityLoop1308/PipePipe?tab=readme-ov-file
It does have sponsor block.
Wait, so is newpipe abandoned?
No. No grand rewrite either:
No they are rewriting most of the app.

To use until new pipe is completed which i think will take a long time . You can use it after that too i guess depends on your taste .
You weren’t kidding, this is a fantastic replacement. Cheers for the rec.
Cheers mate .
Just installed it. Seems pretty slick. Haven’t tried the import from youtube yet though
I thought tubular was the newpipe continuum?

Tries this one, nice, tubular has done loading issues
Has anyone tried LibreTube (F-Droid link)? It uses the Piped API, which is an alternative YouTube frontend.
Recommended 💯
@THEDAEMON I’m using it now. Found it recently.
Cheers
I’m using pipepipe and libretube, newpipe can’t view the live recordings on some content which is a shame but I think if libretube is more recommendable.
@slsemmt @THEDAEMON I’ve used libretube and was very useful. But now the app won’t work and I’ve tried to reinstall and then the phone doesn’t allow me. So now I’ve moved to pipepie. I think the phone manufacturer doesn’t like it. I’m using pixel 6a.
It’s too bad that the limited available alternatives themselves aren’t available.
PipePipe was AnimePipe. It is for anime weebs. And it forks off of NewPipe few days later.
Yeah it was initially built for anime fans . Even though i barely watch animes (the only real japanise made animes i have ever watched are One punch man and death note ) i still think it is a really good fork . And nowadays it seems they are not forking from newpipe anymore .
Are they maintaining it? Or are they borrowing from this new project going on? Because NewPipe Extractor is unique, and not just an FFmpeg sugarcoat. I need to see what’s going on, because I have not found anything worthy of attention in privacy space for over half an year now, since Reddit exodus happened.
What makes it special for anime?
It has some anime streaming sites attatched along eith youtube if i am right. Which i don’t think i am .
Okay I see
