Living in a rental that is managed by a property management company. The sewage has backed up on 4 occasions on to carpet!!! There is also a huge mold problem.
We made a complaint to AHS Environmental Public Health and they came and did an inspection and deemed that the rental did not meet minimum health conditions and told the landlord to make repairs.
This was over a year ago and the landlord hasn’t even started the work!!! Every time a date for repairs comes and goes I reach out to AHS and ask them for an update, they contact the property manager, the property manager tells them that the work isn’t done and they need more time to complete the repairs. And without question the inspector extends the due date.
We own a steam cleaner and my partner steam cleaned the carpets but the carpets were soak with sewage and need to be ripped up. The bottom of the drywall needs to be replaced because it was under sewage. Not to mention a proper mold assessment needs to be done.
I know that I can go to RTDS to break the lease or get an abatement, but it’s hard to come by affordable rentals and it takes a really long time to get your complaint heard as a tenant.
There really has to be a better way to hold landlords accountable!!
