I installed MoCA devices on my home network around this time last year and my life changed forever. I tapped into all this speed on my home network that I had been missingout on. About a month ago, I started running into issues where the adapters lose connection and reset periodically. It was so disruptive that I had to unplug them and am trying to figure out how to get things working again.

Any help in diagnosing the problem would be appreciated. We have not introduced any new variables into our network that coincide with the timing of when the problem started to occur.

Internet Provider: Optimum Online 1GB

Modem: ARRIS TM3402A

Routers: Eero Pro Mesh System (2 gateways)

MoDA: 2 ScreenBeam ECB7250 Adapters

There is a POE filter installed at the Internet Service entry point (by Optimum). On the 2nd floor, I have the coax cable coming in from the wall. I have that going to a splitter with one side going to the 1st MoCA adapter and the 2nd going to the Modem. The Ethernet cable goes from the Modem to a ethernet switch. From the switch, I have one Ethernet line going to the Eero Gateway, one Ethernet line going to the 1st MoCA adapter, and one Ethernet line going to PC. On the 1st floor, I have the coax cable coming from the wall to the 2nd MoCA adapter and the Ethernet line going to the 2nd Eero device.

This setup worked without issue for about a year. The issue that I am running into now is that the 2nd MoCA adapter resets frequently. I will see the coax light on the adapter go off and then the Eero switches from a wired connection to a wireless connection. All the devices that are connected to that Eero lose connection for about 30 seconds while everything resets. Then when the MoCA adapter is back online, the Eero switches back to a wired connection (at which point all the devices reset again).

I’ve tried the following troubleshooting steps so far and none have been successful:

  1. Swapped the MoCA adapters (ie. moved the one from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor and vice versa)
  2. Checked all the coax cables to make sure they are tight
  3. Added a PoE filter where the coax cable connects to the modem
  4. Removed the Ethernet switch and had the Ethernet from the modem go directly to the Eero gateway and from the Eero to the 1st MoCA adapter
  5. Ordered brand new MoCA adapters to replace the original ones

None of these steps has made a difference and I’m still facing problems. I currently have 1GB internet with Optimum and the MoCA was allowing me to get around 400-500mbs on wireless devices and the full 1GB on wired connections. Without the MoCA, I get roughly 300-400mpbs off the main Eero gateway and 100-200mpbs off the one on the first floor. So I really need to figure out how to get the MoCA setup back up and running.

I have noticed that if have my cellphone wireless connected to the 1st floor Eero (which is connected to the 2nd MoCA adapter) and I run an Ookla Speedtest, it “overloads” the MoCA device and causes the green coax light to come off. So there is something going on there, but I dont know what.
