I’m posting this for the single parent trying to get by who didn’t know there was housing being built in their neighborhood with 1-bedroom units for $632. I’m posting this to spread the word about housing that many NYers in need did not know existed. $1,700 is on the highest end of the units listed below.
Searching for 1-bedroom units on Housing Connect for a household making up to $65k (two individuals working FT at minimum wage, or $31.25/hr) returns the results below. I put this list together in response to a lot of the Housing Connect naysayers, and it felt like a waste to just have it buried in comments. This list is a resource that many families could use, so I hope it helps out some of my fellow NYers who may feel like there’s nothing available on the site for them.
So $1,700 in rent is affordable for individuals and families at 70% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is defined by HUD for the NYC Metro area here as $59k - $69k annually for an individual: .
I would love to see more available, especially for those NYers earning less than $65k, but like I said in the title, this isn’t “nothing”. This is affordable and available housing for over 300 individuals and families.
