Title.
After a debacle with windows making me buy a second license, I’m looking at taking the plunge into full Linux life. I use exclusively Linux at work so I’m not completely a noob, just from a gaming perspective. Primary use is gaming for personal use, so i dual booted Linux Mint Cinnamon
Discovered that Nvidia drivers run into issues with Wayland (which i only sort of understand, but it seems critical), as well as the driver version available is behind because they arent open sourced.
Based on the market, I could make a break even move selling my 3090 ti and purchasing a brand new 7900 xtx. Toms Hardware GPU hierarchy shows that the 7900 comes out a little ahead in terms of overall framerate, but obviously some of the advanced Nvidia features aren’t there like DLSS.
I’ve done some searching and can’t really find consensus on Nvidia vs AMD for Linux, which I find surprising due to the driver support. Also there were some notes that the 7900 xtx reference cards have heat issues, but then some people say they’re great.
Figured I’d just make my own post and see if anyone has experience with any of my situation.
