I’ve been looking at phones lately and I’ve seen this company called Enough from their YouTube kickstarter video. It’s them and SLEKE (maker of OdesseyOS) working on building a nice size phone. I’m thinking of supporting their kickstarter because I am tired of these humongous phablets, and I can’t stand on how they feel in my hand when holding them.
The phone has everything I want but I am really wondering if the bootloader will be unlockable.
—-———————————————————————————————————
Some important edits that should be added; (after looking on Enough’s website and kickstarter)
- No unlockable bootloader
- No sideloading
- On Enough’s website, storage is expandable by MicroSD or that same space is using a physical SIM card and you have the option for eSIM
- No headphone jack, but a USBC to 3.5mm converter is given if you do the kickstarter
- Stock android or OdessyOS only (from SLEKE); no flashing capabilities at all
- Replaceable battery
- Price of phone from kickstarter:
- Super Early bird price: $399 USD (sold out)
- Early bird: $449 USD
- Kickstarter special; $499 USD
- Retail price after campaign: $599 USD
5.3 inches is not a small phone
I’m blindly trying the upcoming Commode phone out. It should be small enough and it runs on Sailfish, not Android. For privacy and security, that’s of course a complete wild card and could be great or complete shit for both.
I’m hoping the Sailfish core devs have 24/7 LLMs churning on looking for and fixing security problems. Practically the only way a small team like theirs could survive in 2026-27.
I would wait for testers to do that to see how the phone functions. Even though it can run android apls, i keep wondering on how far that can be tested, cause the company is saying not all android apps will work.
Are there any older smaller phones that can be flashed to more modern Android versions?
Android? Locked? No thanks, never again…
what happened to #7?
WHY WAS #7 DISAPPEARED? WHAT WAS HIS OFFENSE, ENJOYING A SUCCULENT CHINESE MEAL?!
It’s the hidden feature
lol
🤣 no, that was by accident. I was trying to create a spacing but it still listed it as a numbered list.
Small is the new big.

Small, if true!
My favorite smartphone size was sony xperia z1 mini And favorite size of dumb phone - nokia 3100
I wish I was able to experience a Nokia, they’re such cool looking phones, but Apple pushed everyone out of the US market when they came along
dimensions: 133mm x 64mm x 12mm
that is a chunky boy
Locked bootloader is a no-go for me, I’m 100% on the GrapheneOS train now. But I do hope that smaller phones make some kind of comeback, I also hate how big they’ve gotten over the years.
What’s the smallest graphene phone one can get ?
A non-XL pixel, unfortunately. They’re not huge, but they’re certainly not small.
i used a 7a because it was the smallest and not old. 8a isn’t a lot bigger.
Still bigger than my old zenfone–that also had a headphone jack. Small is good
Locked bootloader, no headphone jack, dealing with a kickstarter. I’d absolutely risk the last one for the first two.
Hey you might like this while you wait
https://cubot.net/phones/smartphones/pocket3-specs/88?l=en-us
About $250 on eBay etc
It dosent support most of the US 4g bands, unfortunatly.
Ah, sorry. My bad.
I’ve been considering this one myself but it’s a bit funky
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTmbxHQRSZ4
Dunno what your bands are there but the spec sheet has B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20, B28, B34, B38, B39, B40 and B41.
Might be more US friendly version? If not, I know the folks over on XDA forum tend to flash custom firmware with these.
Dam, not even close. Are band size is so small .
We have here 2,4,5,12,13,14,66,71. 13 and 71 are critical for rural coverage.
Hmm. I think the issue with all these phones is that the modems can support those bands just fine but they’re generally tuned for Asian and European markets. Predominantly because those sorts of phones sell en mass there, maybe.
For example, I have a duoquin F22 pro (think modern Nokia). I know that folks over on XDA have flashed CFW to region unlock them for US.
You might be able to find what you want (the Cubots sound like a near match) quite cheaply but you’ll have to check XDA for CFWs first. Quite a few of these phones ship with unlocked bootloaders and AOSP by default so they are pretty easy to tinker with.
Else… How do you feel about the JellyStar?
The US unfortunately has a monopolized market of either Google, Apple, Samsung or Oneplus phones. We really don’t have a lot of options unless if you buy an older phone from like 2016-2018 that can still give you LTE service, with the screen size is about 5.8 inches. Everything else is either too old/ obsolete, can’t used bands due to shutdown of 2G/3G, or it doesn’t ship here cause of lack of band support or cost.
And these niche communities of phones (unless you look at some of the privacy focused ones) is not really helping that market either.
I also tried to look up on where to buy the Duolingo F22 Pro, I couldn’t find it anywhere on where to buy i, but I know you can use it here.
I got mine off Aliexpress, fwiw.
https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-duoqin-f22-pro-phone.html
The phone itself is awesome. The T9 keyboard is ass (the membrane they used is just not good). I got mine in 2022 iirc. I cycle between my Samsung A20 (yes, it still works well, 9 yrs in) and the local equivalent of the TCL flip (android 8.1 based).
I actually just installed this on it and it’s blazing fast STT now -
https://github.com/maxmilneaus/tt9-whistle
Edit to add: I have the F21 (the smaller one, candybar). The F22 is about the same height and an iphone, except halfish of the width.
I had one but the software was ass. I only had it for 3 months before recycling it. Screen is way too small, debugging it made it hella glitchy, there’s not really a true custom rom installation for it, and launching most apps made it buggy. I got so tired of it. Then I started reading about Unihertz’s track record of their devices receiving poor software and customer support, so I decided to not deal with that company ever again.
when it comes to small screens like that, the smallest I’ll do is close to 4.3-4.5 inches. 3 is way to small.
Yeah, that was my feeling on it too. Cute, but too itty bitty. I already have an android flip phone if I want that form factor.
It sounds like the Cubots would be ideal for you…IF you can find evidence of CFW unlocking your regional bands.
Sorry dude. Chin up - they nuked 3G here entirely. Which means none of the good, old phones work at all. I have a Nokia N95 that’s awesome but I can’t do squat with it as a phone any more.
Yeah…. A lot of the older flip and small banana like phones are already out of the question cause we no longer have 2G/3G.
The only older flip phone we can use here (were you can still get a signal of course) is the CAT S 22, but the price on that one jumps so much, and personally it’s to bulky for me.
Or you can get the modern TCL flip 5g (or the older ones) but who in 2026 uses Kai0S? I wouldn’t be able to run anything on that phone, there’s no app nor security support with KaiOS.
Locked bootloader means it’s a pass, unfortunately.
This device has banned sideloading. Wouldn’t go anywhere near it.
sideloadinginstalling applications from any source in a device you own.Yes, thank you for using 10 words to describe what I did in 1.
He explained in ten words what you fucked up in 1.
Their point is that “sideloading” is a PR framing device to relabel a complete reasonable action i.e. “to install any Software on your device” to something which is not intended, advised and should not be desired.
Yes, the term “sideloading” is more distinct but it carries baggage
You’re adding negative connotations to words that have none. That’s like saying that we should rename piracy to “downloading media from alternative sources” or whatever just because corpos are anti-piracy. We use these words because they are precise and concise. Big tech is anti those words. We are pro those words. The word itself is neutral. “Sideloading” is a meaningful category because big tech makes it so by forbidding it, or making users have to use workarounds to do them. “It’s not sideloading; it’s just installing apps onto the phone you own”—well, that would be lovely, but that’s not currently the case.
Sideloading has been a word for installing apps that aren’t from a store at least since I started using Android in early 2010. There was never any negative connotation, aside from the acknowledgment that you wouldn’t get automatic updates.
I’m fully aware of what their point is. My point is it’s a senseless boogeyman distinction that someone made up about a word that precedes Google, and replaces it with a much longer phrase.
Then use “Installing an app”
This device has banned
sideloadinginstalling an app. Wouldn’t go anywhere near it.Surely you can see how that wouldn’t have conveyed the message I was sending in my comment?
“Installing an app from 3rd parties”; cmon I don’t have to hold your hand :/
I think he meant “installing” but kept going.
This device has banned
sideloadinginstalling. Wouldn’t go anywhere near it.Doesn’t make much sense, does it?
Sure doesn’t.
Dam i just realized that, and now reading no unlockable bootloader either.
TL;DR: a stock Android option is available where you still can sideload
that’s only if you choose the “anti-distraction” OS where nearly no apps are available. stock android is also an option (on which sideloading is still very much possible but harder with a waiting period after the restrictions you’ve probably heard of).
i think this feature of the anti-distraction OS is probably a misstep if it can’t be overridden, but you do not have to use the anti-distraction OS at all.
Edit: Added TL;DR
It just says “Android OS”, which can mean a lot of different things. No one would actually want “stock Android”. But whatever it is is probably better than their own OS.
What do you mean “no one would want stock android”?
That’s the whole selling point of the Pixel serie phones. No 3rd party bloat or unwanted features, quick updates, etc.
They’re much closer than e.g. Samsung OneUI, though.
Android OS is just another word for Google and Oddessy Os is for someone who wants minimalistic features. I’ve seen a lot of phones pushing that lately but then they don’t have features or capabilities that they should have.
Google is not an OS.
They do have they own OS called Chrome OS (for computers) but for these phones, especially now sideloading is going to be difficult or not happen at all, you can basically call stock android, Google, cause that is all Google is gonna want you to use.
They do have they own OS called Chrome OS
Yes and they have another one called Android. Google is a search engine. And a company. Again, not an OS.
And Fuchsia! RIP Fuchsia.
WIRED says it’s stock Android.
“Stock Android” is pretty well-defined. what do you think it means?

if anyone here is fine with Android 8 then i can reccomend https://shop.shift.eco/shift5me as a small repairable phone with replaceable battery and headphone jack for like 200€.
The ressources are quite limited and it does not have NFC but if its just a phone for simple tasks it can be enough (check if your banking app supports Android 8!)They don’t seem to understand what people actually want from phones.
If it had wireless charging, I would’ve backed the kickstarter already. Without it, I’ll hold on to my S22 for now and see how the reviews go once it’s released. But this is the size I want with most of the features I want.
The only small phone ive seen that is getting the attention it deserves is the Mudita Kompakt. Ive been paying attention to all the software updates and they look really good, plus you can sideload. Its a minimalistic e ink phone but it has way more features than the Enough Phone.
