New Corne Choc Wireless Chasis and Travel Case - eviltoast

Hi all, I made a chasis & travel case for my Corne so I could take it to & from work easily whilst testing the Corne form factor.

So far it has been working quite well for me.

Hopefully someone else might also find it useful.

In the mean time I’m working on a new keyboard design that has the same basic form factor as a Corne with the following additions:

  • Since I move between Windows & Mac I’ve added two additional buttons to the bottom row.
  • I’ve added EVQ encoders in the place of TRS jacks as the build is 100% wireless.
  • I’ve also increased the battery size to ~250mAh without changing build thickness.
  • I’ve added a single colour backlight circuit.
  • A fully 3D printable chassis & travel case.
  • Depending on the cost I’ll also be doing an aluminium case, but I think that may be too expensive (I’ll see I guess).

Boards are coming from JLPCB soon, if the whole thing works I’ll open source it & post here.

In your description I saw you thought the magnets were a bit too strong and it gave me an idea-

Why not enclose them in the print? Maybe take sheets of paper and layer them up until the magnet strength is how you like, measure that with calipers, and use that to determine how many print layers you’d need to make solid over the current magnet insets.

That would certainly work, I like that idea.

I won’t personally re-print this case myself as this Corne is just to see if I like the form factor (I do mostly).

But I will give this technique a go for the next enclosure. Even if it’s more work than a smaller magnet I just want to give it a go now 😊

      Cool idea!

    Thank you for sharing!

I’ll be getting a Corne with MX keys so I appreciate you’ve provided the files to alter your case. (I’ll just need to make it taller)

It looks really sharp, and nice keyboard.

      Thanks.

I’d love to see the end result, no doubt others will find an MX more useful too, I’ve noticed the choc keys aren’t as popular.

looks great! what did you use to design the case and and how did you make this rough surface finish? It looks very good on the outside and will be good at hiding scraches!

      Thanks.

I used Shapr3D, it’s a really nice cross platform package but I mostly use it on iPad, it lets me create things without needing to be at a desk.

The surface texture comes from the build plate (Bambu textured PEI build plate), the hiding scratches is exactly why I used it.
