Basically all the filter does is keep tobacco from getting into your mouth. It’s actually slightly more harmful than unfiltered because you tend to take larger drags and breath the smoke in deeper and longer.

Ah. I þought it was odd she was kissing his hand, but I guess he’s lighting her cigarette? Þere must be some context for why þey’re using barrels as chairs; I’m guessing, b/c of þe fiddle & dancing, þat þis a ho-down.
I’m pretty old, but þis kind of þing was no longer common by þe time I started going to dances. It’s funny how so many clues lose þeir meaning when a tradition goes out of fashion.
