Note that while this is clearly a promo shot of Sam from Stargate Atlantis, the Sam event that this is referencing is from an episode of Stargate SG-1.

This post also begs for additional context, but know that both of these explanations below are spoilers for the climaxes of these episodes.

Stargate SG-1 S8E8 "Covenant"

Near the end of the episode, an employee with whom Alec Colson was close to kills himself. In this scene immediately after, Colson is sitting pensively alone with a gun in hand. While it’s not mentioned explicitly in the dialog, it is clear that Colson is contemplating suicide as well. Carter joins him and talks him into putting the gun away.

Stargate Atlantis S4E9 "Miller's Crossing"

The humans are working alongside a wraith to write a program or something, but that wraith is hungry and cannot continue without feeding on a human. Sheppard talks Henry Wallace into sacrificing himself to the wraith, fully understanding that will mean he will die. Sheppard explains how if the wraith does not feed, that will mean Jeannie Miller will die, leaving her husband and child without a wife and mother.

I would argue Sheppard did NOT talk someone into killing themselves.

He presented the facts, the man made his own choice, and made sure his remaining life would actually help someone else.

I would have done the same in his place. I might not have used nanites on a mother just to ensure she helps, but I would absolutely have offered up myself as a snack if my family were now effectively dead and I was the only person around who doesn’t have any more reason to keep going. The fact he was doing everything for his own kid makes it understandable, if not okay.

Another point to mention is that he fully expected to be headed to prison for kidnapping Rodney and everything. Death was his alternative to prison.

You’ll have to remind me of why that’s relevant. I just remember that one marine or whatever who ran out of his medication, but that situation didn’t really involve anyone else.

The last pod was broken so he stayed awake while everyone else went into the pods to survive to the next galaxy.

That just means he will be hanging out alone on the Destiny for three years, right?

Yes, but it was only supposed to be 3 years to the next stop.

So unless we hear something else to the contrary, we just never saw the conclusion and it happened as it was supposed to.

I thought they skipped the next bunch, try one last recharge at an unguarded star before jumping to the next galaxy and as the ship has a basic hyperspace drive it would take ages to jump the gap. Unlike the x304 which only takes 3 weeks.

It has been over a decade since I saw universe so I understand I can be wrong.

I just skimmed a transcript of the final episode. When there were eight broken pods, they mentioned that they did not have enough supplies to support eight individuals out of stasis, so it would be suicide for the eight volunteers. But after they managed to fix seven pods, they didn’t mention if they had enough supplies for just one individual out of stasis. The reason Eli volunteered himself to be the one to stay out was because he was the most likely to eventually be able to fix the last pod. He would spend as much of the three year journey as possible trying to find a way to fix the pod before his supplies ran out.

The instance mentioned in the OP? Definitely not. In the crystal entity episode, I think the only person who died was the psychologist who died in her sleep. The dream Sheppard caused her to fall to her death, but I don’t think she jumped intentionally. And for whatever reason, that dream death became a death in reality.
