Nearly 4,000 miscarriages were recorded in the Gaza Strip during the first half of 2026, according to health officials, marking a sharp increase from approximately 1,200 cases reported during the second half of 2025.

The highest monthly total was recorded in April, with 920 miscarriages, while nearly three-quarters of the cases occurred during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Health officials attributed the rise to the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system, severe shortages of medicines and prenatal services, repeated displacement, malnutrition, and deteriorating living conditions in overcrowded tents.

Doctors also cited chronic psychological trauma caused by ongoing Israeli bombardment and repeated displacement as a major contributing factor, saying fear and acute stress have triggered miscarriages in some cases.
