Kingdom Hearts III killed my love for the saga - eviltoast

⚠️This post contains spoilers about the end of Kingdom Hearts III.

KH has been my favorite serie since around the airing of the second one. I’ve beat the main story of every entry and even bought consoles for it, since it spread on so much systems…

I was very hyped for KH III and bought it day one, then finished it in about two weeks, if I recall correctly. It’s been a blast and it’s been such a fun game.

Where I had a problem, was that the story of KH III was so underwhelming. The story was almost inexistant until the final part of the game. It has some great moments, but we’re talking about a game supposed to end a saga that started early 2000. It was highly anticipated. And all we got in the end was a succession of deus ex machina to close all the story that has been opened and the main anthagonist of the serie that just suddently change his mind after being defeated. His whole life was dedicated to his plan, so why drop it like that ?

I’ve always had this in mind since KH III got out and wanted to vent. I don’t feel like playing the serie anymore, since the storyline is just so confusing, and the writting very poor in my opinion. And I hate feeling that way, because It really had been my favorite video game saga…

Do people feel the same about it ?

Thanks for reading.

I adore the Kingdom Hearts series, but I couldn’t even get through a few worlds in KHIII due to silly and younger tone of all the cutscenes. I get that at it’s heart it is a kids game or at least was. But their core audience has grown up.

I was so excited when it came out, only to be extremely turned off with the lack of FF characters and the over the top childish tone.

Yeah, I understand that. I think I found KH III more childish than the rest of the saga, most of the time.

I’d say the intervening… what was it… 15 year?.. gap is what killed my love for the game series. I was in middle school when I played the first one, and I never even bothered with KH3. The story was painfully overwrought by the end of KH2, and I knew that tacking on another sequel wasn’t going to fix it. Nomura is going to Nomura.

It’s a shame because the series was one of my favorites back in the day. At least the soundtrack will always be good.

Honestly, KH3 and FF15 were major disappointments for me. Even tho Nomura stepped away from 15 and the story, I still blame Nomura for those dumpster fires.

The main point of disgust with KH3 was thinking I was halfway done with the story and ready for the 2nd visits of each of the game worlds, only to find we were at the fucking end???

Also that games’ 1k heartless battle with the that god awful heartless background with the ass framerate? At that point I had given up on the series.

Then, some time later, I like watching youtube while doing the dishes, so I gave the story to Union X and Dark Road a try, and hot damn did they just pull me back in.

Meh, I didn’t really like the mobile games, but I might give the story of them a try.
