    I don’t understand the point, the government is run from one place for a reason. Won’t this just be a massive expense for no real benefit?

    Devolving powers to the local councils and mayors has traditionally just lead to localised corruption. If there is a really specific power that needs to be devolved then sure we can vote on it, but it seems like it’s just performative and poorly thought through.

    It looks to me like Burnham is just trying to make the north and south an us and them issue. Divide and rule.
