Is plugging an ethernet directly into modem bad? - eviltoast

When doing wifi tests I realized that I have about 930mbs when plugging into the router and 1050mbs when plugged in the modem. I’d obviously rather have the faster speeds but i’ve heard it isn’t safe. To add onto this question whenever doing testing I realized I bought a 10gbs ethernet cable and am curious if a 10gbs cable on a 1 gbs connection bottle necks anything. Any tips would be nice as I’ve got no idea what i’m doing.

If your PC has a decent firewall (e.g. most GNU/Linux distributions) set to block incoming connection requests by default, it is safe but honestly pointless.

The extra speed you seem to be seeing isn’t going to impact your normal Internet usage, only your speed tests.
