What's the "WHY" of Apple Watch's poor battery life? - eviltoast

I have searched and searched (please don’t make fun of my possible lack of Google skill), but I have not found a cogent explainer of WHY the Apple Watch has such a comparatively poor battery life.

It’s not the display. Garmins have OLED always-on displays that last for at least a week. It’s not the HR or other tracking. Other watches do that also.

It doesn’t seem to be the form factor. The AW is not impossibly thin or small or anything.

Can anyone either attempt to explain it or send me to a page that does? Thanks. I’m earnestly curious.

    It’s an interesting question.

Imagine if AW allowed you to really turn off features. Say you were off grid for a few days or something. Turn all internet access, sensors to minimum use, cellular off, etc.

Wonder how many days for just watch function, step counting, maybe GPS on demand.

As others have said the AW might have a physically smaller battery, simply because all the sensors and stuff inside take away space from it.
