I could really use some network advice. Probably a dumb question. But I’ll lay out the exact details and maybe you can help guide me?? My Internet connection runs directly to Motorola Cable modem via coax cable (MB7420) Then runs to Google Wi-Fi router via Ethernet cable. From there, a second Ethernet cable runs to this device:: D-link Dgs-1008g 8-port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch

From the D-Link switch, several Ethernet cables run to various devices around the house. Including other google wifi “meshed” boxes around the house to give strong wifi mesh network.

I would like to use one of the open ports on the current D-Link switch and plug in an Ethernet cable that will run over to a basement man cave set up. I want to plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into a new/2nd “switch” (I haven’t bought yet. I would love a recommendation on which one to get). Needs to be smaller and wall mountable to put behind a wall mounted tv. From this new switch, I want to run 6 cat6a cables to hardwire 2 TVs and several gaming systems/etc.

So…first I am wondering what I need to buy. Second is: do I need to do anything special when I plug in the new switch. Or will it simple “work” (without plugging in laptop/changing network settings/etc.)?
