Speed through Travel Router nets me less than 50% of what I get when connected straight to the base wifi network. - eviltoast

Hi all, I recently posted about smart wifi devices and can not use them due to my accomodation using a wifi with a captive portal. Was suggested to use travel router which I then did purchase - the GL.iNet GL-AR300M16-Ext Mini Travel Router which is advertised for up to ‘300Mbps High Performance’.

I set it up correctly, all using the stock settings, however am faced with an issue - the wifi I hosted from my travel router is less than half the speed vs if I connected straight to the base wifi - 25.26 download + 32.36 upload and upload ping is 99ms, vs 68.37 down 68.84 up at 44 upload ping (the rest of the pings are consistent).

Just wondering if theres a step I missed here?

This is to be expected as you are repeating the signal which halves thruput and the use of it will also slow everyone else on the same access point down as the channel is in use while re-sending the packets to the downstream devices.
