Need some suggestions on running a house full of CAT to my server - eviltoast

Hey folks!

I built a barndo in my backyard where my server is going to live. We are pre-drywall and I’ve run all my CAT to where my patch panel will be. It’s going to be in a server box that’s hung on the wall. My question is simple, but I’m one of those that tend to overthink. I can remove the back panel and run everything through the wall into the back which would be really clean. There’s also the access two panels on the top and bottom of the box to run cables as well, but it would breach the wall above or below, and I can’t think of an advantage of not putting it directly behind the box.

Is there any downside to taking the back panel off? Is there anything I should know before hanging it? I’m using the included bracket and aiming for the middle of the stud. It’s a NavePoint 12U 600mm depth for reference.

This question sounds silly, but I’ve saved a LONG time for this, and really want to nail it (pun intended).

BTW your “server rack” is really a network rack, you’ll find that it’ll only hold a small selection of rack mount servers like the Dell R210/20, it’ll be fine if you’re planning on using mini PCs etc

Hey thanks for the correction. Network rack is fun to say lol

And yessir, there’s only a router, switch, and a small server in there. Some of y’all’s racks are pretty impressive but I just don’t need the power with the by projects I run. I have to constantly ask myself, “Ok but what are you going to use it for?”

      And then I usually don’t buy it…
