Need help with newer home. - eviltoast

Trying to hard wire a ps4 vs using WiFi and there’s an Ethernet port near it. If we hook up the ps4 to the Ethernet port, it says cannot connect to internet. This is the picture of the network switch and there’s a bunch of non lit Ethernet ports. The homeowner is thinking he didn’t pay for Ethernet ports with the house and therefore they are not hooked up. I think it’s weird they would put random ports in the house with no wire attached. I can try and provide whatever other information you may need.

Thank you

Connect one port on your router to the switch using any port. Then connect other devices to the remaining open ports. It seems the cabling is good.

If possible move the router and isp device to the cabinet.

We found ports behind where the router is. We plugged one from the router to it but nothing lit up on the switch. Unfortunately we are 1 Ethernet cable short right now to make everything work

In my experience, the cabling isn’t all plugged in once it has been run. Look through the box for unplugged cabling and try plugging them all in. Try the phone cables too if they’re terminated the same.

If you don’t see any loose cables, open the cover for the one near the router and see if the jack is terminated or if it’s just left open.

Can you describe your network? Cable modem? Separate router, separate wifi or all in one ?

What did you disconnect or connect exactly?

What lights are on, on the switch?

How many lan ports on the router?

What do you mean by having issues?

Possibles: Bad cabling Bad switch Unplugged WAN Second DHCP (router) connected to switch

              All in one

I connected the Ethernet port on the wall to one of the 4 outgoing router ports. The router has a coaxial cable going to it. Everything else goes out

Only the light for the ps4 connection goes on

4 lan ports on the router

I think it’s just a touchy/shitty streaming box. WiFi still works fine

I don’t think the router has a Wan port

I think the Ethernet port ( wall jack to the switch) you are connecting to is wired for telephone or damaged.
