Close to 70 devices, a lot of WiFi IoT. Started to see instability. Have I added one device too many? - eviltoast

I have an Asus RT-AC88U with a RT-AC66U as an AI-Mesh node, servicing a~1200 sq. ft. place. My WAN comes from a cable modem, with a 5G router as backup (the WiFi radios are turned off).

On a regular basis I have around 65 devices connected, with a bunch of IoT over wifi. Recently I started to add Thread devices, and that’s when I started to see some network instability, namely, random disconnections from both the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks.

Is there a way for me to troubleshoot these issues? Am I overloading my router? If so, what is a good recommendation for a replacement?

Are Asus routers good? Would make sense to add a newer one as the main since I can reuse the devices I have, but I’m not extra happy with the options for customization you get with Asus. Was thinking on moving to something more pro-level, but I found the Unifi site a little overwhelming as starting point
