“Identity Politics” is a far-right dogwhistle.

What Trudeau has been pushing has been protection for all marginalized groups - most controversially (!), Indigenous and Trans people.

You could argue that he’s spent too much time on that and not enough on other issues, and maybe that’s true. BUT, I’d argue that he’s pushed those issues so much because of the pushback they get. Here in Alberta, we have uneducated psychopaths (David Parker and Take Back Alberta) controlling the government from behind the scenes, and driving towards banning LGBTQ+ expression, banning gender-affirming healthcare, banning gay marriage, and banning abortion.

    Really.

So when you have groups like this with a significant voice, then yes - politicians need to make it a major issue, for the protection of all citizens.

The economy is still bouncing from COVID and its long-term fallout; and interest rates around the world are making things tough everywhere. Housing in Canada is definitely a problem, and one the Liberals haven’t addressed well at all. (Personally, I don’t think most western governments are at all prepared for the consequences of 21st-century capitalism applied to basic needs, but that’s a long rant.)

But if we were to look at the other party most likely to form a government, you have a loudly bigoted populist who will clearly do FAR less about housing or food prices, because obsessive non-interference in the market has become a conservative mantra.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m not a big Trudeau fan, and it is definitely past time for him to GTFO; but as long as the CPC is a party of dangerous raging hatemongers, I’ll do whatever I can to keep them out - even if it means voting for Trudeau.
