Alternatives to Galaxy S20 FE 5G? - eviltoast

So i shattered my screen and I was shopping around for a replacement. Then i notice i could get a new S20 FE 5G for not much more.

I honestly cant break away from this model. Its still a premium phone with premium specs WHILE STILL KEEPING EXPANDABLE STORAGE

Is there anything like it now? I have an insane library of photos and videos on my SD card that ive been building over the years, its honestly the only thing keeping me from buying newer phones…

What’s out there today?

Sony Xperia phones still all have headphone jack and SD card slot.

The new 5 series is coming soon and looks great. The Xperia 1 is a bit pricey. The 10 Series is budget so you might find it underpowered.

Samsung A54 you’ll also find underpowered if you’re used to flagship.

If you get the S20 be aware that Samsung is not beginning One UI 6 to it, neither Android updates apart from security updates.

The two phones are very close. The CPU in the S20 is about 30% stronger overall but it’s a small difference. You’ll easily be able to play your game.

Do what I did and just get the screen fixed man. The s20 fe is such a good phone, I can’t justify the cost of a new model when this one is more than fine. Little to no battery or performance drop after 2 years.

Ah fair enough man. I’ll tell you my problem, is that as much as I’d like to try other brands like Sony or whatever, my watch, earbuds, and TVs are all Samsung and everything works pretty well together (for the most part), so I’m hesitant to potentially fuck that up.

The ecosystem problem is true even if you don’t use apple products. I’m in the same boat, everything’s Samsung here, I’m scared to leave.

It’s not so much that I’m scared. I mean I know I could overcome just about anything it might throw my way, but the hassle isn’t worth it.

I fucking hate being in an “ecosystem”, but at least this one is fairly open and allows some tinkering. So far so good on durability and performance from my Samsung products.

When I upgrade my gf’s phone soon, it’ll most likely be an s23 because she also has a watch and buds. So yeah. I guess i’m as big a sucker as anyone else.

As big a sucker me, lol.

I bought my S20 FE to get away from OnePlus for a change. I’ve been looking to get a smartwatch, and decided I don’t want a Mi Warch or anything that’s a glorified fitness band, so realistically a Galaxy Watch was my only choice. It just so happened that the Watch 5 got released and Buds 2 (non-pro) were bundled for preorders of the watch.

Just like that my single Samsung device turned into three. Then I decided to get a tablet, and at that point it was obvious I’d get a Galaxy Tab, thus completing the Samsung ecosystem lock-in. This shit does work, especially the nearly seamless reconnecting of earbuds between phone and tablet. Not nearly as good as what I’ve seen Apple could do, but honestly, I’m happy.

And now whenever I think about a potential future phone upgrade, Samsung appears to be the best choice. Fuck me haha. Not that I don’t enjoy those toys.

So I took some time earlier and looked on Samsungs website to see what the current offers are. They are all terrible! Everything is so freaking expensive. Even our phone is still $500. It’s crazy.

I was thinking s23 before, but that is completely unfeasible. Looks like she’s getting an S21 FE. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. but if you have the money to spare, this is easily the most repairable phone you can get.

The battery life is pretty bad, but you can just carry around a second one like some people used to do.

The screen is a comparatively dim LCD with 60Hz, but it can be replaced with only a few screws.

The chip isn’t the most cutting edge thing available, but it can play any game just fine.

overall, the software also runs great. it comes with stock android in europe, and you can easily upgrade to LOS or EOS.

Ith has 5 Years of warranty and at least 7 Years of Software updates.

for me, it’s the best phone i ever had. (minus the part where it’s missing the headphone jack)
