My true shame as a LOTR fan is that I’ve read the books five times but I just never read the appendix.
SHAME SHAME SHAME
it’s no shame on them, but they’re missing out on Angamaite and Sangahyando, which is a shame
I can feel it.
HOW? it’s got some great bits!
the history of gondor and arnor, the pronunciation guide, info on the languages
And if you like the appendices you’ll love The Silmarillion.
well yes, it leads nicely into that, which leads nicely into unifnished tales, which leads nicely into HOME (all 12 books)… after that it gets tricky
I do need the encouragement, thank you!
it also has the story of aragorn and arwen, which appears nowhere in the book because tolkien couldnt find a place to put it.
he did of course find a place to but bombadil…
I have honestly always wondered why that was such a huge story line in the movies!
it’s a very significant event in the history of middle earth, but it’s always at the edges of the story. and you have to have read the silmarillion to really get why it’s so significant, and of course it’s some bloodline stuff, because it’s tolkien.
I also have not read that, is it worth it?
yes. but it can be a tough read at first. lots of new names and it’s not a novel, it’s a condensed historical narrative
Andy Serkis on audio book makes it easy.
They do the appendix?! I’ll have to look into that!
In the book Infinite Jest, the author straight up continues the story in the appendix. So if you ignore all of the notations then you’re going to be confused af.
I’m sorry Mr. Tolkien but it’s Bloated.
