One of the things I miss from the Reddit coffee subreddit was the weekly bean recommendation threads so I’d thought I’d ask on here, what’s everyone brewing this week?
I just finished a bag of Burundi Long Miles Gaharo Hill from Oynx Coffee Lab (https://onyxcoffeelab.com/products/burundi-long-miles-gaharo-hill?variant=40261580226658) that I made Kalita pour overs with.
Sounds like some great beans! Gonna have to order some but I have never roasted before. Though since joining this sub, I kinda want to give it a go. Have you tried any of their pre-roasted?
Oynx is a roaster! All their beans are roasted by them. They’re a very third wave type of roasters so lots of fruity and floral flavors and light roasts.
The Cats Pyjamas from 7 Miles Coffee in Sydney.
It’s a really smooth blend of coffees from Colombia, Costa Rica, Indonesia and Guatemala.
Publik Coffee in Salt Lake City has some ridiculously delicious and unique roasts. I’ve been hooked on Beekeeper.
That Onyx looks nice. I honestly haven’t expanded beyond my local roasters but maybe I will try mail ordering a bag for once. Speaking of local roasters though (I’m in Portland), this is one of my go-to coffees: https://shop.coavacoffee.com/collections/coffee/products/kilenso
I also like Kalita Wave, but tend to default to V60 because my Wave is the 1-cup size and I’m usually brewing for my partner too :) That said I also switch off between paper V60 and a metal cone (made by Coava actually… yeah I like those folks).
Is this the metal cone filter you’re talking about? I find I vastly prefer the taste of coffee brewed with a metal filter to paper, but the only metal filters I have are single cup. I’m also usually brewing for two, so I’m very interested in one that’ll fit my Bodum Chemex knockoff! I’m a couple hours north of PDX so I’d also be happy to support a local coffee co.

I got the mystery beans from Foundry in the UK. It seems to be a natural process if some kind with tiny little beans. The ferments notes work especially well as espresso.
What’s your espresso set up look like?
Gaggia Classic (with PID mod) - Mahlkonig/Baratza Vario, which I recently swapped from ceramic to steel burrs.
