I kind of already know the answer, but would an Intel NUC or similar with around 32 GB of ram be enough for a Proxmox? For my labs I would like to be able to run at least 4 or 5 VMs at once and think 32 GB of RAM is enough with 1 TB internal nvme and an external harddrive, but in the past never had enough RAM or storage.
This will also be my next addition to my current server for a while.
It depends on what you plan on running and how much RAM each VM would potentially need. I run proxmox on my 11th gen NUC with 64GB of RAM, 8 VMs, 1TB nvme for VMs, and 500GB SSD for OS. I have had no problems for my workloads and have a bit more room for more.
Main concern is running window vms since those are bloated.
Should be okay for a few VMs. Recommend running the LTSC version of Windows 10 if it suits your needs. Much smaller footprint. You can also take a look at Chris Titus Tech’s ultimate Windows Utility (on GitHub) to help reduce even further.
